  1. Case Western

I have decided to apply to Case Western, and I am wondering if anyone has applied or gone there. I did a search and it seems like a couple of people started there last fall. If you are still around, how do you like the program? Is it really April ...
  2. How to be a CRNA

I would start off by reading the 'sticky' thread at the top of this forum called "How to be a CRNA FAQ" (or something like that). It will answer a lot of your questions. You are likely to get a better response if you aren't asking general questions...
  3. No, it has to be ICU. Check with the school you're interested to be sure, but you won't get the experience with vents, drips or other equipment in an intermediate care unit that you will in ICU.
  4. Has anyone taken an online pathopysiology class?

I didn't take it online, I am taking it in person. It is difficult in as much as it is a graduate level Advanced Pathophysiology, but it is not impossible. I prefer to take my sciences in person instead of online, but the same instructor teaches bo...
  5. Has anyone taken an online pathopysiology class?

Rush University has online advanced patho and advanced physiology. The spring quarter starts March 30.
  6. A day in the life of a SRNA

It is impossible to work full-time while in CRNA school. The general consensus is that it is not really possible or a good idea to work at all. Have you looked at the stickies in the CRNA and Pre_CRNA forums? There is a lot of information there th...
  7. Online course for Physician Assitant

Did you mean to post this here? I'm not sure why CRNAs would know anything about PA school. You could try looking here http://www.aapa.org/pgmlist.php3 to see if that helps.
  8. I'm in at Rush! Anyone else?

I finally got the letter that I'm accepted at Rush today! I start next June. Anyone else?
  9. I'm in at Rush! Anyone else?

Sure, Raas. My undergrad GPA overall is 3.13, nursing 3.43. I have 12 credits of graduate nursing classes with a 4.0. GRE 1360 (760 math, 600 verbal) 4.0 writing. I have 5 years ICU experience (6 when the program starts) in 3 different ICUs, all ...
  10. ACNP without acute care background

Just as a small point of clarification, acute care means hospital (as opposed to LTC), not ICU.
  11. I'm in at Rush! Anyone else?

Hey, MICU, I guess we'll be in the same classes next quarter. I just met with my advisor yesterday and registered. Pegleg, I sent you an email a couple of days ago; not sure if you got it. In case you didn't, I work at Rush-Copley in Aurora. Are ...
  12. I'm in at Rush! Anyone else?

Congratulations! I'm not taking classes now, but I plan to take pathophys and physiology in the winter. Are you guys from the Chicago area? Do you work around here?
  13. I'm in at Rush! Anyone else?

Congratulations to you, too! Are you going to take classes before June? You can email me through my profile if you want.
  14. Rush or Mayo

I am applying to Rush and Mayo for next year, and I was wondering if anyone here currently attends or has graduated. It seems like there aren't too many midwesterners on here, but I figure it can't hurt to ask. What did you like about the program? ...
  15. Rush or Mayo

What?! I'm assuming they calculated it higher than it really was? That sucks. The admissions committee met yesterday, so now I'm (im)patiently waiting for a letter. Sorry that happened to you!
  16. Case Western

I know someone on another board has already received a date for an interview. I'm still running to the mailbox every day. When I emailed a couple of weeks ago, they said interviews were from October to February.
  17. Paid during the clinicals?

I believe all three schools I applied to provide a small stipend during clinicals. It is paid by the school, not the clinical site, and there is no commitment involved. It is considered taxable income.
  18. Insight into programs?

Hi! I'm still in the application process, too, so I can't be very helpful, but I thought I'd mention that if you search the Pre-CRNA forum for "Mayo" there are a lot of threads there. One in particular is called something like "Why Mayo CRNA Progra...
  19. Acronym's

CVICU= Cardiovascular ICU MICU= Medical ICU SICU= Surgical ICU CABG= Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting (=open heart surgery) IABP= Intra-aortic Balloon Pump CCRN= Critical-care Certified RN GRE= Graduate Record Exam (kind of like the SAT or ACT but for...
  20. Case Western

I got a letter today that my application was complete and I would be receiving a letter from the anesthesia ad-com when they started the interview process. At this point I'm assuming that will be in October since the deadline is the 1st.
  21. Case Western

I'm pretty sure they send out 'real' letters. I emailed them over the weekend to make sure my application was complete, and she said that letters should go out soon. I'm anxiously checking the mail daily!
  22. What you can say to patients as a NP.

I think what sirI was referring to is more along the lines of a chest x-ray or CT result that suggests cancer (just for example), not a post-CABG with new a-fib. Patients and families are often really anxious to know diagnostic results, but I never ...
  23. advise on CRNA nursing track??

There is no reason to go through the schooling for FNP if you want to be a CRNA. For one thing, you can't work during a CRNA program anyway. For another, you can't just 'get your FNP license,' that is a master's program, too. Start working in an I...
  24. Rush or Mayo

Don't be nervous. It really isn't that bad. Forgive me for not being more forthcoming with details, but since we're all in the same boat I don't really think it is fair to disclose everything about the interview. You'll be fine. And Moe, I'll PM ...
  25. Rush or Mayo

The Rush interview wasn't bad. There is one part where they ask you about stuff like how you've prepared, why you want to be a CRNA, etc., and one that is more clinically focused. They give you a clinical scenario and you have to answer questions. ...
