Hello there, I'll be graduating with my RN in August, and have been asked by a homebirth CNM to be her birth assistant!! I'm extremely excited and grateful for the opportunity. It feels a little early to start talking with her about pay, but I'm cu...

Hi there! That is definitely a lot to think about! I am a full-time CNM student at Frontier, I have a 3 year old, am 16 weeks pregnant, and work part-time! Yes, Frontier does allow one to take a leave of absence. As soon as I told my advisor that I...
I have been working as an RN Case Manager since graduation, so not using any clinical skills. I graduated with an ADN, so that's why I had to make a portfolio. For references, I used the CNM that I had been shadowing, my preceptor in L&D, and my ...
Yes! I am a new nurse (graduated in August) and will be heading to Frontier Bound next month! I have been a doula since 2006, and shadowed a CNM at her home birth practice during nursing school to present. She is actually going to be my preceptor dur...
Hi there! I'm not completely sure, but am responding with what I think I know because no one has given you an answer yet. :) I was living in California as well when I decided that I wanted to be a midwife. As I was going back and forth between the C...
I just wanted to add that I am a new grad nurse with less than 1 year of nursing experience and got accepted into the midwifery program! But, I have been a doula since 2006 and shadowed a nurse-midwife for 1.5 year while in nursing school. Good luck!...
Hi there! I think #3 sounds like the fastest, least expensive route... If you needed to move after you completed your prereqs, couldn't you just start an ADN program in your new city? I actually am following this plan pretty closely. I completed my A...
As a nursing student, I shadowed a CNM at her home birth practice for a year and a half. I attended births, prenatal and postpartum visits with her when my school schedule allowed. I graduated in August, and am now preparing to apply to the midwife...

I have been a doula for several years, and I do believe the experience is very helpful! A doula helps the mother and partner through the birth process by providing physical and emotional support (massaging the mama, helping with comfort measures, an...
I'm applying to begin in 2012 as well! I'll be finishing up my ADN program in August, and am going to apply with the portfolio option for people that have a non-nursing bachelor's. Good luck!!!:)
Yes, I knew her. I actually had a homebirth and she was my midwife. We kept in touch over the past couple years, and since I've been in school, I asked if I could shadow her at prenatal visits on my days off. That turned into attending births with...

I'll be graduating from nursing school in August, and I have to say that school with a small child has been completely doable and not nearly as bad as I thought it was going to be. She was 8 months old when I started, and will be a little over 2 whe...

I found out that I got accepted to the OHSU OCNE program in Portland late last week, but I'm still undecided about whether or not I want to attend there. It depends a lot on cost... I'm so tempted to just go the community college route because it's ...
Hello! I'm looking way ahead into the future here and wondering what the drawbacks of attending Frontier, if any, would be, compared to a non-distance program. Specifically, I'm also looking at OHSU's midwifery program. I currently have a BA, and am...

I just want to say that I struggled with baby fever, too, and gave in :) I'm 25, hubby is 27, we've been married for 2 years, and felt ready. We both have bachelor's degrees, and my nursing prereqs are finished. I'm now 7 months pregnant, due in M...
Thank you so much! I do feel drawn to Frontier, which is strange, because I really don't know as much about it as I'd like! Another question... I know that I'd eventually like to have a home birth practice, and it seems like Frontier would better ...
Huh... I found that Frontier is actually $400 per credit, while OHSU is $470 per credit... I'm having a hard time finding reasons not to skip the BSN and attend Frontier! It looks like an incredible program!

Thanks for the congrats! We're keeping the gender a surprise :) I'm very excited. Haha... I had no intention of doing the ABM program with a newborn, but thanks for the advice! Since I applied last year and they keep your application materials o...

Thanks, Bluee! You've convinced me to apply to MHCC and CCC as well. Are there any other CC's in the Portland area that are part of OCNE? I'm new to the area, and am not too sure about what all of my options are. I think the CC route might actua...
