you hit the nail right on the head crocuta. even though i do not care for the current hospital's administration or my manager's style of management, i know this woman has a favorable opinion of me and i never know when i may need to use that to my ad...
  7. Being a patient where you work

at the hospital i am currently working at the charting is computerized and you cannot look at anyone's chart unless you are caring for them directly. i have heard of people being fired for unauthorized access. nurses can only view charts of the pati...

  9. How much is your pay?

in western ny (buffalo, niagara falls area) new grads are getting about $21-$23/hr. nursing jobs here are fairly easy to come by as many young western new yorkers have decided to relocate after college. cost of living is pretty low so it's not too b...

we have eri at our school and we will be taking the exit exam. however, the test has no bearing on our course grade. we are being offered the eri nclex review course the week after we graduate, but it is optional.

  13. There is no nursing shortage!

i am referring to nurses with active licenses. there are at least 10 nurses i can think of off the top of my head who are either too old or too sick to hold a job who have active licenses in my state. all they have to do is pay their renewal fee and ...
  14. There is no nursing shortage!

i have seen some of the statistics on the number of nurses in the u.s. however, i wonder how many of those nurses are actually able to work as nurses. i know several nurses who have retired or are disabled and still maintain their licensure. i know t...

i don't wear a ring during my clinicals but it makes me uncomfortable. when i graduate in two months (and have a real job), i plan on buying a plain gold band to wear to work. that way i will have no diamonds to lose and no germs to bring home.

that's a good idea about the passwords. i'll have to try that.
  18. What??? No CNA's???

You're absolutely right. The only real reason I'm even considering this hospital is because I know this is the place where you get to see everything. However, I do not want to set myself up for a fall. I may try a per diem student position they hav...
  19. What??? No CNA's???

This hospital does have something similar to an "externship". It is a per diem position available to students where they allow you to pick the unit you want to work on whenever you want. You get to do more than the aides, but not quite as much as th...
  20. What??? No CNA's???

Yes, they do infact pay 40hrs for 36. The salary at this particular hospital is $1 to $2 less per hour than most other facilities in the area so they pay you for 40hrs as a "perk". However, this is the only place where they do not have CNA's on all ...
  21. All White Uniform Dress Code?!!

i think the idea of nurses wearing a standard color at a facility is a good idea. i think it helps patients know who their caregivers are. when the nurses, aides, phlebotomists, physical therapists and everyone else look the same it confuses the pati...

  23. Question about nursing school?

it all depends on the schools admission requirements. some schools with a lot of applicants may be more selective than others. in my part of the country lpn programs tend to be much more lenient concerning grades than rn programs are.
  24. you have to get a 70 on in all your nursing and science courses and maintain at least a 2.0 gpa at my school. i know 70 seems a bit low but i've heard our tests are much harder than the other schools nearby. since the nclex-rn pass rate is about 90%...
