Looking for LPN school in Colorado
Thanks for the advice and good luck to you I'm excited for you. It is always great to cheer on another online friend. I must admit to being a bit of a math dummy, so I will worry about the math. I will look into CNA classes for spring. I would rather not have to go through an outside source and take the state test. I never wanted to be a CNA, although I can see it would probably be pretty useful on second thought!

Looking for LPN school in Colorado
Well I haven't applied yet, even though I got offered a first shot at it with the letters when they changed things. I'm not a CNA and I just can't seem to find a time in their schedule that works for me with the class. It always ends after 3:30 and my kids get out of school at 3:30! So for a stupid year almost I've sat on this! Just taking core classes that will transfer if I decide to do the BSN later. Can you tell me about the TEAS Test? I was wondering about the GPA averages as well. Mine was only a 3.4, so I wondered if I needed to retake something.

can't believe what they are doing ..
Yes I plan to go to the session I hope it isnt longer than an hour as my kids get out of school at 3:35 in Falcon!

Thanks for your input.. good questions. so they told you most have the minimum grades? Well I hope so then, I can see why if it wasn't competitve and you only had to have the 2.5. Well that would help me as I'm in the middle I think. The reason I wondered about TEAS is that person I spoke to said you could wait to take it , as long as you took it by May 4, and since you have to apply by April 13 how can that be a factor? She said you would be accepted on a tenative basis providing you got the passing score.

Not long only 1 semester. Do you think TEAs factors in score wise or just if you don't pass with the 70 you won't be accepted? From what the person i spoke to said, you can apply and get accepted contingent on whether you have a passing score. GPA matters most and if you have a degree or health care experience it helps a tiny bit. I'm worried because my GPA is only 3.2, i got a C in A/P 2, due to stress and my daughter breaking her arm TWICE over the semester impossibley during tests 3 and the final. I missed a b by 7 points (had larry).

Teas Test
I just found out that I will have to take this test a few days ago. I'm very, very, worried. I never took algebra in high school 20 years ago, I've gotten by in my pre reqs by luck i suppose as I've never needed the algebra so far. I can do the metric system and fractions and bet i could do ratio ( just don't remember exactly what that entails). I also don't do well in chem, just find it so boring. I havent taken it but my bio classes went over basic stuff like bonds and valence electrons. I need to get at least a 70 and an 80 on the math. So friends and neighbors is this even possible? I need to take it by April 13, and can only take it one more time. Please give me some advice, I did order the ATI study guide and practice tests

Also they are now requireing CNA. Which just sucks for me as I have not taken it and promised my family I wouldn't go to school over the summer. Looks like I will have too.. Does anyone know if the first two semesters are only open to those of us already on the list?

TEAS Test?
I too just found out I have to take this. My school just switched from the NET. I'm not strong in math and chem, in fact I hate chem with a passion. How much time do I need to prepare do you think? And what is the best study guide and where to get it?? Thanks

can't believe what they are doing ..
Well it is official. I just got my letter. Apps have to be in by April 13. Same as the rumers only now must have CNA or classes taken

So. ahem... Anyone from PPCC get the letter yet that gives us the official rules? I've heard about it but still i can't believe they changed it just when I finished my pre-reqs. Also for the military spouses, the wait list for us is no more. This is from the dean of the nursing section that I ran into at the Falcon campus. Something about accreditdation or lack thereof.

dissecting cats
My 2 cents, since I just finished this last week. I have 2 kitties whom i love dearly. It was hard. No other way to say it. There were days I just knew my babies (my cats) knew what i was up to. they were on their best behavior too! it was like "please mom we were so good today!) :) The hardest part is the first day when you have to open the cat and it well looks like a cat. I had to put a paper towel over his face and that way i could pretend it was something else. After that it was a bit easier (not much). The funny thing is I have no problem with the human cadaver. None. I could examine him all day...

A & P I Quick Question
Yes, not only name and location, but all or most markings and features on each as well. The skull has a great deal of markings. Appendecular skelleton was much easier.

Why hire an LPN rather than an MA for a doctor's office?
It really must vary from state to state because here in Colorado, when before i went back for my RN, i was a MA. I did draw up and give injections and venipuncture on a very regular basis. I worked at an OB/GYN office and also filled in when the regular lab person wasn't there to draw labs. I gave Rhogam, Depo Provera, Depo Lupron, Betamethasone, Rocephin and flu shots mostly. We did have RN's and LPN's as well. They got paid more, but did nearly the same as the MA's.

Has anyone even heard of this school?????
Its funny that you should post this when I was going to do the same thing. I saw an ad in the base paper, and was curious myself. it says you must get a 75 on the entrence exam, and be a CNA, which i am not. I'm currently taking classes at ppcc and would love some info from ANYONE!!!

I'm Confused about PPCC in Colo. Spgs.
Well currently, I am no where! I am one semester away from finishing pre-reqs. I can apply at the end of fall semester.

I'm Confused about PPCC in Colo. Spgs.
Good question. As far as I have read you must have a 2.5 and thats all it says. I'm unclear on how it works in that regard, but my question is are they discontinueing the spring program that just started? I keep hearing they have lost teachers.

Denver School of Nursing-to drive or not?
how did you find out the wait list is now 3 years? i was told 2, and maybe less since they now have spring starts. i think it would suck to drive that far, just think of the gas you'll spend! But then again you would be in faster. i'm interested to read if anyone does do this. maybe it wouldn't be so bad. i'm just thinking of what you'll pay in gas!! i hate going to ppcc since i'm on the east side and it takes me 30 minutes... have to fill the tank at least once a week..

Waiting after commission
My husband graduated from VMI in May 1992. He didn't leave to go to his first base until April 1993. He sat around for almost a year! so yes it looks like this is a normal thing.. sorry. But he does get promoted according to the May 1992 date not 1993

Anyone going to PPCC?
well sure i'd like your notecards! I'll pm you about that. I'm headed up to school today to buy my books for the class and for growth and devopment which i'm taking online. Any details on your experience this semester you'd like to share? If not thats ok, but I do like hearing from someone "in the moment". In particular what did you get to do in OB? Do you learn cervix checks? I don't blame you about peds, seeing sick kids would get me down. Nice to hear from you!

Most silly reason for being called in the office?
I work in a Dr. office and it was a slow day. There were 2 MA's working when one would have been just fine. The more senior one asked the new girl if she wanted to go home and she said yes since it was something like a birthday or anniversery in the family. I was standing NEAR them and overheard the conversation. The next day I'm called in and handed my butt for MAKING the new girl go home. I was like ?????????? Not only did nobody make her go home, I had no part in it and didn't tell her to go anywhere!!!

Military spouses--Career Advancement Account=free money for school!
Yep it is for anyone. I'm a spouse of an Lt. Col and the woman on the phone told me even a Gen.'s wife would be there. I 'll have to get the number later as I'm at school now. But call the Peterson education office and they can point you in the right direction.
