HR, police report. That person sounds like the reason it's a good idea to carry.

Are you asking because you have been in trouble for substance abuse or are you planning on potentially getting in trouble? If it's the latter, maybe don't put your patients at risk until you are sure you can stay clean and sober.

You diverted TWICE? It sounds like maybe you have a drug problem and the BON needs to repo your license.

That would be a hard no for me. I would call them and discuss the agreed upon rate, if they refused to change it, they would be looking for another nurse. Nurse jobs are a dime a dozen.

The standards to become an NP are very scary. Do standards even exist? The criteria for admission to NP programs should be as rigorous as getting into a CRNA program. The quality of NPs that I work with are scary enough that if I or my family members have something more than a minor illness, I want to see a real MD/DO/PA.

Nurses are human. We are allowed to be sick and have the right to stay home and get well. Too bad if a manager has to work. That is what they get paid to do. Perhaps your agency needs to come up with a plan to cover illnesses.

This is STILL a topic?? Really? I'm not and will never be one of those who think nursing is a calling. It's a job, a toxic career choice, we aren't the Flo Nightingales, she's dead, times have changed. Nursing is the way people make a living. A good place to start would be to adjust the wages and pay in $$$$ instead of peanuts. The benefits need to be better. Nursing education needs revamped. Stop placing so much emphasis on the freaking care plans and start teaching actual skills.

I got more clinical experience in the ADN program. My BSN program was basically writing nonsense papers.

If a robot could be programmed to provide hands on care to demanding, entitled patients who think they are more important than they are, that would be great, because no human wants to go in a room like that.

It seems as though nurses are the ones who tolerate these types of threats and mistreatment. Threaten me with that nonsense, I'll be a no call, no show my next shift and sleep just fine. It actually feels good. The sooner nurses start putting ourselves first and start demanding respect from employers, the sooner the blatant disrespect will end. Is your employer Wellpath? They suck.

Staff nurses are terribly under paid for all the responsibilities that are dumped upon them. I believe hospitals purposely pay low wages because staff will need to pick up extra shifts just to make a decent income. I got tired of peanut staff RN wages and went strictly agency 10 years ago. No mandatory OT, I can take summers and holidays off it I choose plus I am paid very well. I would encourage anyone who feels low balled by their employer to consider agency work, you'll likely be making double or triple your staff wages.

I totally agree! From the time my children were little, I told them never choose nursing. They didn't. I now have grandchildren and have told all of them to avoid this ****** job. I wish someone had encouraged me to choose a different path. The only positive side is the weekly travel pay that shows up in my account. Everything else about this job sucks.

I don't feel staffing issues are my problem to deal with. Management gets paid big bucks and bonuses to figure those things out. I just say, "no, I can't work extra." No apologies and no feeling bad about using the word no.

I have zero sympathy for hospitals and their staffing problems. They have treated nurses like *** for decades, low pay, mandatory OT, poor benefits, unsafe staffing, the list could go on. I'm over the, "it's a calling" mentality. Nursing a job that we should be compensated well for. I'm glad that nurses, including me, are finally fed up with the abuse and have and are leaving regular staff jobs behind for agency work, where we are paid what we are worth. Maybe, it will open the blind eyes of management and force them to revisit their abuse of nurses and do better. If it doesn't, then they can suffer the consequences of losing fed up staff.

I'm vaccinated by choice. I don't believe any vaccine should be mandatory. I also could care less about whether my coworker is vaccinated or not. What they choose to do or not do is no concern of mine.

I totally agree. I chose to be vaccinated. I should also be free to choose to decline a vaccine. I decline a flu vaccine every year. I mind my own business and do what I choose for myself. I could care less if my coworkers are vaccinated or not.

I stay positive by only working travel contracts, the money makes it worth the fake I love my career choice attitude. Beyond the pay, there really isn't anything positive about nursing anymore.

Heck yes! We have to put ourselves first, God knows our employers don't care. They'll work you till you fall over and kick you when you can't get up. No guilt here for mental health days.

I doubt that hospitals will hire anymore staff, they can't even pay a decent wage to nurses and it might result in CEOs losing their bonuses.

I have been a RN since 87. I wouldn't encourage anyone to be a nurse. The compensation is terrible, lousy hours, on call, poor benefits, managers who think work before family, unsafe patient ratios, wear and tear on the body, to name a few. I would find another career choice, there are definitely better ones out there.

Oh well, they are free to go to another hospital for care.
