I am an LVN, and I just started taking classes at my local community college to apply to their RN program. Then I got a postcard from Western Career college. Thay have an acceleratede LVN to RN program. It would be much more expensive, but faster tha...
I just finished my Nutrition class, one of the pre-requisites for our program. It was a very interesting class. One of the more interesting things I learned has to do with obesity. It turns out that kids gain the most fat cells of their lives during ...

Have you taken some continuing education units. If you need some, chose a subject that will help with where you want to work. Many hospitals have new grad programs, so even though you are not exactly a new grad, the program would be good for you.

You are probably right Mike. You have already gotten over your fear of causing someone discomfort, seeing naked people of all ages, etc. You have nothing to fear but books and tests. By the way, I think EMTs are some of the most under-paid people on ...

Good to know. I am an LVN and have been looking for an LVN to RN program. I didn't like WCC because of the price and because their clinicals are on weekends. I'll check out this Unitek joint.

When I was in school I never volunteered when the opportunity came up to drop an NG. I was always so afraid of making the patient gag, or just doing something wrong with the instructor watching. Fortunately in home health, my patients usually have a ...

For some reason, nursing attracts a lot of us "older" students, so I am sure you will have company. For me the clinicals were harder than the classroom part, but that is different for everyone.

I have worked in assisted living facilities and in pediatric home health. Two good friends that graduated with me both worked in med/surg. One of them spent a couple of years in L&D, and now works in the outpatient clinic of a county hospital.
I get an evaluation every year, and they always say "You're doing a great job. We haven't gotten a raise from the state, so we can't give out raises this year." It sucks, but it seems to be this way with any home health agency. I could make more in a...
Hi Mumpet- I am also a pediatric home health LVN, here in the Sacramento area. I also make $17 an hour, and have been stuck at that rate for 5 years now!!

Damn. Same experience. Apparantly I do not exist in the U.S., due to my weird last name. Here in CA, Jadon is a popular name for boys, but according to that site, there are zero Jadons.
There are SO many different areas of nursing. Advice Nurse, Home Health, Laser Skin Clinic, Infertility Clininc, Private Doctors Office, etc. My best friend burned out on Med-Surg. Like a previous poster, she was taking anxiety meds to deal with the ...
But it's true !!! When I went to LVN school I was young (and kind of cute if I do say so myself). I swear a couple of the instructors took an instant dislike to me. They also scared us all on the first day by telling stories of all the students they ...

I was a nervous wreck too. Every time I got up to that podium, I would get short of breath and my voice would shake. My instructor was very kind and stayed after class with me, letting me make a speech to just her, until my shakes subsided a little b...

I read through the rest of the thread and I am just dumbfounded. Are you presenting yourself professionally? Well dressed? A little make-up, neatly groomed, smiling, using proper english, a firm handshake, etc? Is your resume free of typos or spellin...

April- Why did you decide to leave the UK. My Mom was from Luton and moved to the states after marrying my Dad ( Military). She lived here for 18 or 19 years before she unfortunately passed away at the age of 45. She never really "fit in" here. She m...

I went to community college for my LVN, so I didn't pay anywhere near that amount. Yes, the material was fairly basic. I found the clinicals much harder than the "book learning". Now I am going back for my RN, and the pre-reqs are SO hard. I was co...

I agree that this governor has no idea what classes are required to bcome an RN. An associate degree RN takes at least 3 years here in CA, so I don't see how you could just add an extra year of high school and squeeze in all those classes! I do howev...

L&D and post partum. Loved to watch the babies being born, and the parents reaction. I saw 5 or 6 and cried every time. In post partum, a woman who spoke only spanish poured out her heart to me. I understood about half of it, but I'm sure that th...
