professional upgrade, change our title from nurse to ?

I recently read that some nursing schools are actually thinking about a title change to reflect the more modern role we play in healthcare. Good idea or bad ? Just think this may actually lead to an upgrade in our curriculum. I personally don't care if they change the name.

NRN????????? Umm, does that mean I can start calling myself a Non-Doctor? For that matter, I guess that makes me a non-ballerina, non-stripper, non-mermaid, right? Why is it non-REGISTERED NURSE? What about all the other things they *aren't*? Like respiratory therapist, secretary, housekeeper? This truly is one of my pet peeves...I knew a girl who was in school, and she was..well..a bit of an idiot. I worked with her, and after she quit, hadn't seen her in ages. Someone I knew saw me at the grocery store, and said, hey, did you hear about so-and-so? She's in medical school! I was like, what??? She's barely got half a brain cell! They kept insisting she was in medical school, and after some lengthy conversation, it turns out she was in school to be...drumroll...a medical ASSISTANT. However, she was going around telling people she was in medical school. Doh! I think, if you're doing something, be proud of it, because it takes all kinds to make the world go 'round, but for chrissakes, stop inflating your 'title' to make up for your insecurities, you know what I'm saying? sorry...I'm tired, and cranky, I guess. ;>P
