Professional courtesy from police at traffic stops

Published

Has anyone else gotten leniency from the State Patrol or Police during a traffic stop? I have gotten many warnings instead of tickets when I am on my way to work or if I manage to mention my occupation. I got stopped last week, I was in uniform and when the officer found out I was a nurse he said that he'd just write down my info really quickly so I could get to work on time. He didn't even ask for my insurance card! :lol2:

I have gotten warnings several times, but tickets X2--find that if you are not in uniform--military or nursing--having your stethescope hanging over your rearview mirror helps....I have found though, that when I didn't get that 'professional courtesy' the guy was really on the other end of the spectrum--very rude.....

I keep my stethoscope hanging on the rear view mirror

along with a pair of handcuffs.

reminds me of a bumper sticker i saw.

sticks and stones may break my bones.

but whips & chains, excite me.

oh tom, you dog.

MERCY lots of responses

i have been given warnings when i was out of uniform and tickets when i was in uniform

if you do get a ticket go to court, usually they would rather reduce the charge than pull a traffic officer from hiway duty, won't make you too happy but it is less money and it won't go on your insurance record

you know it wasn't too long ago that there was a thread here about the people that different nurses said that they call traffic control to report reckless driving, children out of protective seats, etc

i wonder how you would feel about them pulling out a nurses license and going on their merry way

i never have given my nursing license along with the drivers license, insurance card and registration...no cop ever asked for my professional license

in louisiana if you have a concealed weapon in the car you are required to give them that license along with and on top drivers license..once aanother nurse and i were going out to lunch when she got pulled over

she handed her cw authorization with drivers license,

she was in her 50s and the cop hollared to another cop who pulled up

GRANNY'S PACKING HEAT i guess that embrassing her was enough he didn't give her a ticket

Thanks 58Flyer, I guess some days are just better than other. By the way, that was probably my kin smoking the Marlboro ;)

Let me add another story:

I heard about a nurse who one time got stopped/issued a ticket by a woman cop and the nurse ended up telling her something like, "I'd better not ever see you as a patient because I won't take care of you" or something to that effect. Anyway, I heard that the cop reported this nurse to the BON and that something pretty major happened to this nurse's license.

I think that's crazy if it's true because nurses are allowed to refuse assignments. I mean, it's not like the nurse threatened to harm the cop.

in Wisconsin we are not allowed to refuse assignments ( i checked on this when we were so horribly understaffed - as long as you clock in you are liable and they dont give assignments before clocking in - sigh)

at any rate i have only skimmed on this site but though this is a courtesy i have seen many posts that they have had multiple posts of courtesies given - that in my opinion is wrong - especially the ones who say they do the violation on a regular basis ( i have a lead foot etc ) - tickets and warnings are for a reason- so we dont do it again and perhaps one day save a life because we were speeding and possibly hit someone or cause an accident.

i have never and will never use my "im a nurse" in a sentence to an officer making him possibly give me a break. if an officer wuld notice my uniform i would tryto change the subject. i also am glad the family members we have in the police force have different last names as i would not feel comfortable accepting a "break" cause i know a cop. ( notice i didnt say i wouldn't accept it lol - but i would feel guilty ) perhpas this is because i know many officers in my family and friends ( seems a lotof nurses around here marry cops lol) so it gives me a different view from the cops view as to why they issue them to begin with.

just my point of view- sorry if this offends anyone, its just MY view- didnt say it was nayone elses. :)

i have had one speeding ticket in my life and that was reduced for other reasons ( it was a new sign on a road i had traveled everyday and i simply did not see it and should have - when i called the DA to get it reduced i simply told them the truth i didnt say i am a nurse and whatever else........ i also told them i wanted the ticket and was issued a ticket for a different charge so that i didnt get points but still paid the price for not paying attention. i have never not noticed again...... that was the point of the ticket - to learn a lesson and if we get that courtesy over and over it really isn't a courtesy anymore in my opinion - its an abuse of that courtesy- it saddens me to think that many accept these on a regular basis.

Uhhh, who was bragging? The OP asked if anyone had had any experiences similar to hers. My brother is a Law Enforcement Officer, but that doesn't change the experience I had. Last I heard, relating a previous experience doesn't usually make you a morally negligent person!

if you look at the tone of many of these posts there is a tone of " HA i got away with it "and many even post how it has been a regular occurance that they "get a break" - in my book that is bragging.
