Professional courtesy from police at traffic stops

Published

Has anyone else gotten leniency from the State Patrol or Police during a traffic stop? I have gotten many warnings instead of tickets when I am on my way to work or if I manage to mention my occupation. I got stopped last week, I was in uniform and when the officer found out I was a nurse he said that he'd just write down my info really quickly so I could get to work on time. He didn't even ask for my insurance card! :lol2:

Thanks for the commiseration flyer, and just as importantly:

thank you for your work too!

It might also have had something to do with my having a rival and very winning NFL team magnet on my car, while the local team is pathetic on a good day. When you're a yankee in the South, you never know. :trout:

Oh, good grief! That is one that is NEVER going to quit being used, isn't it?:uhoh3:

Not as long as it remains true. :lol2:

HA! I'm not surprised at all - To be sure it's a perk of the trade. Nurses get respect ya know!

So, under that logic, EVERYONE who breaks the law should be pulled over, and EVERYONE who is pulled over should be ticketed. The law is black and white. You broke it. You'll be punished. No grey area, no compassion...is that what you're teaching your grandchildren? With all due respect, it is THOSE children that are out in cuffs late at night. This children who weren't allowed to do "anything" so when they can they do "everything". Relax a little bud. Like you said, it's just a ticket.

I am positive that the way you respond to getting stopped affects the end result - The police are people, too, and if you have an attitude, or deny you knew you were speeding, you're more likely to get ticketed.

And if you have an excuse, it better be a good one!

I got out of a few when I was young and blond. Now looks and youth are a thing of the past, I prefer to just cus them out and pay the ticket. Lot more fun to me that way. Last cop that gave me a ticket got sprayed with sand and rocks as I left the side of the road. I have little patients for traffic cops, when there are murders to be solved.

I have gotten warnings several times, but tickets X2--find that if you are not in uniform--military or nursing--having your stethescope hanging over your rearview mirror helps....I have found though, that when I didn't get that 'professional courtesy' the guy was really on the other end of the spectrum--very rude.....

Smithbc: Well., the cussing and rocks is bound to get you a ticket - but truthfully, you only have a few years on me and my "Ticket Karma" hasn't changed a bit. As a matter of fact, I almost lost my license in my twenties after gettting stopped three times - Judge let me off, though.

I do think women get off easier, and the odds are much greater if you're apologetic. We don't have too many murders to get solved in the hinterlands of Massachusetts, so I'm glad traffic cops keep themselves busy. It is annoying though, isn't it? Chances are you're going fast because you're late.

Hell, no, they just write the ticket. I don't tell them my job, just as most cops who come in don't advertise theirs, unless they were hurt on the job.

You've got to be kidding, you cuss out cops? Sorry, but I think that's totally uncalled for, I don't care how old you are. I personally think that you need to do a little introspection and self examination about a few things if you think you are justified in your behavior!

I'm getting old and grey, but I've still not gotten a ticket. I see no good reason to treat someone with disrespect, just because they're doing their job.

And it's a different set of cops that handle the murders.

This reminds me of the Foxworthy joke about you know if you're a redneck woman if: you don't have to remove the Marlboro from your lips before telling the state trooper to kiss your fanny. :lol2:

Seriously, you could have been arrested for willul and wanton reckless driving since the rocks flying constituted a hazard. I certainly arrested the last person who did that to me. The guy was trespassing while riding an ATV and per the landowner I just had him sign a notice to stay off the property. That's getting off real light. Then the guy decided to have the last word and spun his tires and sprayed dirt all over me as he went to leave. I arrested him and impounded his ATV. I guess his dad never told him to never mess with the police.

Statistically, you are more likely to die in a car crash than at the hands of a murderer, so maybe traffic enforcement has it's place.
