Thanks for the great replies everybody! It is interesting to hear how things are structured in other states. We live in Maryland, where it seems that many of the private schools employ nurses. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for the perfect position to reveal itself.
I also live in Maryland and my nurse coordinator and I were having this conversation earlier today. Most of the Catholic schools in our area do not employ a nurse. Some of them do; one in particular has a high population of special education students (Epi-pens, DM, tube feeds) so they have a nurse. But most of them do not. You would have to ask around.
PS
In my area, if you are employed by a public school you can choose to send your child to any school in the county. I don't know if that's the case where you live but it's a nice bonus.
I am both in Maryland and a private school. I have reached an agreement where tuition is waived for my wife's and my service. Living here, you know the uber importance of private schools, (employers here consider the high school more than the college for new hires, no joke) and many teachers at these places get reduced tuition as well as comparable wages to public. The hard part is finding a position, maybe you will luck out and find one. Maryland schools in general are above average in performance, so your perception of your zoned school may be skewed. Remember, districting and schools change, you have at least 5 years to watch if things change.

My question: Do private schools generally allow the children of their nurses to attend school for free?
The back story: My husband and I are planning on starting our family soon but I hate the school district we're living in. I actively looked into moving but our house is underwater. My mother has pointed out that by the time our babies reach school age we may be in a better place to purchase a new home. My fear is that a child is an additional financial strain and we will be in the same situation at that time. I never really considered private school for our children as I attended public school and we are not particularly wealthy. Now I am wondering if we could make private school more affordable if I worked for one. I previously worked at a camp that permitted free tuition for the children of employees in addition to regular pay. Does such an arrangement exist in private schools?
I look forward to your responses!
