Private LTC vs. For Profit LTC

Greetings All,

I am curious as to how many of you work at Private LTC Facilities, and how many of you work at "For Profit Facilities?"

Are Private LTC Facilities better for the resident's and employee's than "For Profit Facilities?"

What are your experiences?

I work for a privately owned for profit facility. In the past I've worked for private non-profit facilities and for large chains.

A lot of it depends on who the people at the top are, if they're effective, if they really give a damn, etc.

Large corporations have more resources. In independant places the people at the very top are right where you and the families can get to them.....

I've seen good and bad in both.

Great post - I have been wondering the same thing myself.

I currently work for a large chain and can't quite figure the system out. However, I am beginning to feel like I am in a 3rd world nation - especially since I am right next door to the hosp (where i used to work)that is pretty much "top-notch" when it comes to equipment and supplies. At this LTC - there is always a shortage of both.

Last night I was praying to find some 10cc syringes so I could flush a PICC. A couple weeks ago I had an IV pump not working at 1AM and therefore we had to wait until 6pm that night to get another from the pharmacy that they are contracted with which is 80 miles away. The list goes on.....

I just wonder how much the CEO's at the top are making off this place. It would be very interesting to know.

And then just last night the CNA told me that a couple of years ago the local newspaper ran an article on the ratings of nursing homes (from state survey, ect) ours came in LAST! Kindve embarrassing, but the more I think about it that is a good thing that a media source is taking notice of these places - I'm sure it makes them more accountable.

I work not-for-profit, religious affiliated CCRC and I will NEVER work at a for-profit LTC facility again.:cool:

I'm working now for a facility run by the Masons. Its not for profit and small enough that you know and can contact administration easily. Money is getting tight and we're having to watch our budget but if one of the residents needs something, they get it.

I've worked the large corporations and supplies were always a problem. You hope you didn't run out of something before the delivery truck arrived and you get into hot water if you go outside their supply system to get something you need for a resident.
