Prior nursing exp applies to higher rank?

In one of my previous posts, someone mentioned that prior experience as a nurse (not military service) will apply as "constructive credit" towards a higher rank. Does anyone know the particulars or that, or how I can find out? At an O-1 pay grade (with BAh and BAS and healthcare) it's going to be TIGHT for us (family of 6). I was wondering today if my 2 years of nursing experience would count towards my rank, since I'm not a new nurse. Thanks!

You sound exactly like I did, midinphx...I SO know how you feel!

not sure how you guys go in as a Cpt. I have 17 years as a RN, 9 years as a womens health NP, and now have my MSN. I go in as a first Lt. I was told no RNs go in as a Cpt or higher unless they are FNP, or Psych Np. Going in as a 66 h, Its O2 for me, commissioned but still awaiting orders.

I am in as CPT, 13 yrs experience, MSN/ANP- 5 yrs. My constructive credit equals 05yrs, I am 66H since there is no ANP MOS. Not sure why you wouldn't go in CPT, how long have you had your MSN?

ADN time doesn't count only BSN

I was an associate degree nurse for the whole career and went back for the MSN only 2 years ago. Is that why? Or is it different in the reserves? My NP is a certificate program and so the MOS is 66H. Guess I just work hard to pick up cpt early as possible.

Yes, I believe the ADN time is not counting towards your constructive credit.

ADN does count for constructive credit, but not all types of nursing does; ie geriatrics, homecare etc.

Well my ADN time was first as a l+D nurse, then as an NP. I think its whatever they want to offer and I take I guess. They assured me it cant be a cpt on entry. I knew that wasn't right, but can't fix it now. Thanks all

What age group did you work with as a ADN NP?

I just signed as a 1LT, 66F CRNA in the army reserve. I have been a CRNA for 7 years and RN for 14. My constructive credit was 6.75 years at the time of application. It took seven months to finally get everything settled. I even asked for re do of my rank and came back the same. I was finally told that for 66F they only count CRNA experience. They did not count any BSN experience. If i would come in as a regular RN I would be a captain. This really makes no sense, but I cannot focus on the negatives.

Ok, I will stay positive. Probably too late to have anything done as I've already been commissioned as a first Lt. My patient population since I've been a NP has been women from menarche thru menopause. Not pedi. I really think my recruiter did not want to resubmit it, and so there it is. But it's cool, I just will hope to make Cpt soon.

I signed the commission too already. Too late now. I wasn't trying to make you feel bad about your rank as I feel slighted as well, but like i said I feel thankful to have all of my student loans paid for and 45k sign on bonus. Plus i get health insurance for 200 per month versus 1200 at my civilian job. So, all in all i don't have much to complain about. Let's hope to make captain soon and best of luck!
