Preparing for TWU nursing school

U.S.A. Texas

I got accepted to TWU in Dallas!! Hooray!!!

I was wondering what should I do to prepare for school? I am going to start working out and walking three miles a day. I will not be able to take patho until the fall and bought the book to start preparing for it now. Anyone else have any comments or suggestions to prepare for school?

Congrats! I also got accepted to TWU-Dallas. I guess we'll be seeing each other in about a month at orientation! I'm not going to be able to take patho until the fall too because I need to work for as long as I can. Where did you buy the book and how much was it? Have you started with your shots yet?

I was accepted as well

I am currently taking Patho and my woman's studies class on Wednesdays at the Dallas campus. I bought the newest edition of the Patho book because that is all the campus bookstore had. Don't waste your money on it. Buy the 4th edition on Ebay or Half.com and save yourself some money!

If you want to get Dr. McArthur's Patho notes, The Office Depot at 8330 N Stemmons Freeway sells her notes for around $15.00. You just need to ask for her BIO4344 notes. So far we have had two test and the 3rd will be next Wednesday and all the questions have come from her notes, so you might be able to get by w/o the book.

See you all on May 5th!!

Congrats to everyone who was accepted!!!! Just remember that even though you should try to get a head start this summer, make sure that you take a lot of time out to relax and enjoy your free time while you have it. I am a Jr. I at TWU this semester and it is very overwhelming sometimes, but just know that you can do it. Don't get discouraged, just take it one assignment or test at a time. Make sure you get a good dayplanner and binder to keep all of your stuff organized. You can pm me if you have any specific questions about anything. Good Luck!!!!

Congratulations! I am a Junior I right now at TWU Dallas. I love it there. The best advice I can give to you is to enjoy your summer. If you just HAVE to do something related to nursing school over your summer, I would say to get the Pharmacology book and get familiar with it. It is by Lehne, 5th edition. Another good idea is to brush up on basic math skills. There is a dosage and calculations test given a few weeks into the semester and if you have already practiced the basic math, the test is less of a bother. The book they required us to purchase was called Calculate with Confidence, 4th edition by Gray Morris. Also, when you go to orientation and they offer you a "package" of textbooks, get it. It was almost $700 this semester, and it includes all but three of the required textbooks for your first semester (some of the books are used again later in the curriculum) and nearly all of the books are also included on a CD-ROM- this comes in handy because you can search all the books at once for a particular thing.

Good luck to you. You will love it!

Congratulations! I am a Senior II (only 7 weeks until graduation - whewww!!) at TWU. My advice is to get an NCLEX review book and a HESI review guide. Nursing school tests are like no tests you have ever taken before and you will need lots of practice. I also have to agree with some previous posts, enjoy your summer. Life as you know it will drastically change in the Fall. Good luck and PM me if you have any specific ???'s!

Congrats! Come August i'm going to start cooking and freezing lots of food so that I can have healthy meals on hand when I don't feel like cooking. I have a husband and a son and their #1 priority is food :)

Congrats to everyone! I was accepted as well. What did you guys think of the orientation? I am not going to be able to take patho until fall as well so I will be right in there with you guys. Thanks for all the suggestions on how to prepare over the summer.

Thank you for your responses. I thought the orientation was well organized, and they want you to prepared. I am reading the book for patho over the summer. I figure if I can study all summer long, I have a better chance of not feeling to overwhelmed in the fall.

Orientation was cool! I didn't stay till the end because I had to study for my Patho test the next day. I wish I could have stayed to listen to SGA and TNSA. Taking Patho and my WS's class these last few months, I have been so impressed by how nice everyone is. Students and instructors are always smiling and saying hello when you walk by. It just drives me nuts that I got Methodist for my clinical site. I think I will start a thread for all the Junior 1's starting this August so we can get to know each other.

See you in August,

Andy

Andy,

I had my clinical at Methodist this semester and I survived!! This sounds so motherly of me, but attitude is everything, especially in nursing school. Don't let getting Methodist "drive you nuts", look for the positives that can come from it. Make lemonade, remember? I am not going to sit here and say it was my first choice either, but it was definitely a learning experience. You will see stuff at Methodist that not many others in your class will see. Congratulations, and good luck to you!!
