I graduated from nursing school, and I feel depress.
Congrats on finishing school. You are suffering what most people feel after they graduate from college. When I was younger and graduted with my first degree, me and most of my friends felt depressed no longer being in college because of peers, friends, etc. Give yourself some time for a new adjustment in life, and take time for you. I know everything will work out great for you.

Preparing for TWU nursing school
Thank you for your responses. I thought the orientation was well organized, and they want you to prepared. I am reading the book for patho over the summer. I figure if I can study all summer long, I have a better chance of not feeling to overwhelmed in the fall.

Preparing for TWU nursing school
I got accepted to TWU in Dallas!! Hooray!!! I was wondering what should I do to prepare for school? I am going to start working out and walking three miles a day. I will not be able to take patho until the fall and bought the book to start preparing for it now. Anyone else have any comments or suggestions to prepare for school?

I agree, the market will probably pick back up again in a few years.

Podcasting lectures at UTHSC-H
How cool!!! That is such a great idea about the IPOD broadcasting. Glad to hear that UT is keeping up with technology. :)

Houston schools: TWU or UT ?
The high GPA for UTH is only one of the ways of getting into the school. I knew a guy that had a low gpa 2.8 and was accepted because he had some experience and excellent references. I knew another girl that had a lvn background with a 3.6 and excellent references and also was accepted.

Whats the real deal with jobs
Yes, it is true that Houston has a limited amount of nursing jobs with no prior experience. I attended a job fair for nurses and they were turning away entry level nurses. I would go for the temp agencies or recruiters. I think to land a job in houston as a nurse, it takes the old-fashioned way which is networking, and making contacts. I don't think new nursing students know about this yet.

Is their really a big demand for nurses?
I attended the Houston Chronicle Job Fair for nurses and found out that hospitals had to turn away entry-level nurses. The better hospitals could pick the top ranking students to fill in the entry-level jobs. Texas Childrens Hospital picked only 18 out of 200 applicants for the year 2005. I think that you can find a job as nurse but no longer expect the big signing on bonuses and the job to fall in your lap, similiar to a few years ago. I only wanted to give people a heads up before they knew what they were getting into. If you don't believe me, go to a few nursing job fairs. But then again, that might change in a few years when the baby boomers get older. The demand might be in California, I recently heard that it is no longer for the East Coast. Good luck to everyone.

Pharm as weed out class? at HCC
I took Microbiology at HCC as Micro 2421, they do not consider it to be Medical Microbiology. You have to retake it at CyFair. I decided not to attend the school because they are pulling that on me for four different classes. I would battle the pharm class and go for HCC. I am going to talk to someone next week probably see you in pharm class this fall.

Is there REALLY a nursing shortage?
I am considering a career in nursing. I was wondering if there is really a nursing shortage or hospitals are making it up to bring in cheaper labor from other countries.
