I need some advice from you, guys, who have had their expirience with OIIQ exam in Quebec. I've just came to Canada, to Quebec, and I have to do my OIIQ exam (I'm BA RN ICU nurse). I was told that there are some books for preparation for the exam in French, but none of my friends doesn't know about English books (they came to Quebec with the licence from Ontario). Unfortunately, I don't know French yet. So, please, tell me about how you prepare for this exam. Where can I find the examples of the questions?

I'm not sure the OIIQ exam is available in English. It would seem counter-intuitive that candidates must demonstrate proficiency in French... written and spoken in all forms... if they were going to permit people to write their exam in English. I might be wrong and anyone who can provide any more information I implore to add their . As for study guides, I think that must also be a closely guarded secret! I'm sure you've already checked out the OIIQ website and found that the English content is pretty sporifice. Intentionally so.

As Jan has mentioned, you are going to find it quite difficult to be able to write that exam if you do not speak any French. That is a requirement to be able to work there. If you do not already have a Canadian exam that has been taken and passed, then it is going to be almost impossible for you to work in Montreal or that area.
As far as I know, that exam is not written in English either, so suggest that you contact the Board there first before you start any preparation as you more than likely will need to pass a language exam first before being given permission to even test there. Just as they do for the other provinces if you are not from there.
I've got the decision of OIIQ about my case and I can do the exam in English. And in the next 4 years I have to do the French exam. But I'll get the license after the OIIQ exam. That's why I'm asking about the exam. I never did such exams, with open questions and actors... I don't know how to prepare, what kind of questions to expect.

I have to pass the OIIQ exam also, hopefully in Sept.09. Yes, theyoffer the exam in English, I believe that it is offered only in Montreal.
I have no idea how the exam goes except from what I read from their Study Guide. I would like to know more about it too so I can prepare better. I asked on allnurses if anyone could post the most common meds used there and the normal range for labs: they are a little different than in the states.:spin
Get the Study Guide from the OIIQ and do the questions, that's how I study. Review some of your school notes.
You should be pretty good in French after spending 4 years in Montreal, take a few classes there if you want and make French-speaking friends and go out and speak French only with them, that's how I learned English when I came to the states. I could not carry a conversation even if my life depended on in... but with exposure you should be fine.
If I can do it, everybody can... I even did my nursing in English not knowing how to speak English so well so... Guys! STOP worrying about the French test!
Good luck! Let us know how you did!:yeah:

I'm confused with CRNE and OIIQ. If I am going to Montreal what exam should I take? Please advise. Thanks.
OIIQ. Quebec doesn't recognize anything that isn't purely Quebecois. In anything. Brush up on your French!
But if you ever decide to work in another province, you'll need the CRNE... because OIIQ isn't equivalent.

I suggest that to those who had just arrived in Quebec, and are not proficient in French yet,... that it is more practical to get an equivalence and take the nursing licensure exam in the other provinces,...you will be better off with a CRNE license than OIIQ- there are a lot of barriers in Quebec!!!

Am thinking of relocating to Montreal. I have the Ontario Nursing Licence and a B.A RN (from the US) but have been practising in Toronto for 10 yrs.
What is CRNE please?

CRNE is the Canadian RN exam
Staffingpool, if you've been working as an RN in Toronto for 10 years, you've already written the Canadian exam, either as the CNATS (Canadian Nurses' Association Testing Service) exam as it was called quite a few years ago, or as the CRNE. You can't have an Ontario practice permit without having passed the exam in one form or another.
