PRENURSING STUDENT ANXIETY

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

I'm a prenursing student student at one of my local community college. I am taking my last prereq, mircobiology, right now Summer 2019 semester. I plan on applying in the fall semester to start in the Spring 2020 semester. I am ANXIOUS! I'm scared that I won't get in and I don't really have a plan B. Applying to the nursing program is all I think about. It makes me so anxious. I just want to know if anyone has anxiety like I do when it comes to applying and getting accepted into a nursing program?

You are not the only nervous student out there, trust me, even though I'm just an anonymous stranger on the internet. I'm actually going over my rejected nursing application today and re-working my essays. Talk about anxiety inducing. The whole process is nerve-wracking and jumping through all the hoops without the slightest guarantee of success can definitely create a lot of tension. So, you're not alone. I try to focus on the things I actually have control over and make meaningful efforts towards those goals. The nerves might still bubble under the surface, or even boil over sometimes, and that's okay. Progress in the right direction, no matter how small, is progress. Now all I have to do is formulate a solid plan B...hmmm...

You need to apply to multiple programs and be willing to drive or relocate

I get anxious applying for jobs and hoping I get one. I wasn't really anxious when I applied to nursing school, because I had a plan B. If you had a plan B then maybe you won't feel so scared. Talk to the counselors at the school and figure it out. Other than that enjoy your summer, it will be the last one to enjoy for awhile.

Since nursing school is anxiety provoking, this is a great time to figure out ways to cope with your anxiety... before you get into nursing school. Talk to someone and figure out a coping strategy that works for you... meditation, walking, yoga, exercise, etc.

You need a plan B and C and D. There are a lot of jobs in the medical sector that pay nearly as well or better and give great amounts of patient contact. Look at some of them. Most aren't as hard to get into as nursing. Also apply to more than one school, for nursing and for any of the others. It is only natural to be anxious if all your eggs are in one basket.

@futurenurseky Anxiety is normal, specially when applying to programs. I suggest looking at other options for schools, just in case. City colleges are always the hardest because of the number of applicants.

I’m also applying this Fall for Spring 2020 and have to take the entrance exam this December. I literally just re-read a lot of notes and also make sure to take time to relax on weekends (I work too so its been crazy hectic).

It’s good to figure out what helps with your anxiety and definitely research other alternatives. The best advise I can give is to keep going, if nursing is really your passion, make sure you’ve applied to every avenue that is available to you. Majority of the time, not getting in isn’t due to one’s qualifications, its also due to the number of applicants.

Best of luck!
