Hey! Silly question regarding announcing my pregnancy, but I graduated in December 2020, and have been working on my current unit since as a casual. I just (literally 2 weeks ago) picked up a full time temporary line-up that's supposed to go until March 22, 2022 (I'm due December 28th, 2021). Suggestions on how to go about telling my manager? and how about colleagues? It's a small pediatric unit with only 12 beds and everyone is pretty close knit, but we have had a bunch people leave the past couple of months (retiring, moving etc) which is odd for the unit because there normally isn't much change in staffing at all. We've been struggling for adequate coverage as a result, and I'm definitely nervous about how my announcement will be received. Advice? Thanks.

I assume you're planning on taking 12 weeks off, so when you give birth, you won't be going back afterwards (your assignment ends in March)?
Just be straightforward. The manager is used to it. It's part of the job.

Congrats!
Don't allow unit staffing issues to make you feel one bit guilty about the timing of your pregnancy. No job, especially a temp job, could be more important than your family and home life!
Just give your manager plenty of time to plan accordingly.

When you feel the time is appropriate, just tell them as you would anyone else. They will probably be very happy for you, this happens all the time. Don't add any unnecessary stress to your life, hoping you have a happy and healthy pregnancy.

You are an adult, I assume married, woman. You had a natural event happene of getting pregnant because you have a husband and these things happen. It's wonderful time of life, and you shouldn't have to worry about anybody who is feeling inconvenienced by this.
Like someone said, the manager has dealt with this before. Hopefully she knows about the birds and the bees. Just because you're a working woman doesn't mean that you can't get pregnant.

Please do tell now. Let the manager have time to make arrangements in December. You don't know; you may deliver early -----and it's Christmas so people are going to want PTO. Let her have time to think about how that will all pan out.
Congratulations.
