How does your facility compensate, recognize or reward nurses who act as preceptors to new employees? Is acknowledgment enough, or should preceptors be paid for performing this role? Thanks huge
My preceptor makes $1.00 more an hour for precepting me. I just love and respect her to death. I cannot give her more money for training me-but she will get payed back in some way by having her good work habits, and knowledge passed down to another nurse who will then someday train another nurse.
A good preceptor is like a precious jewel. For all of you who put your heart, soul and kindness and patience into it- You are truly priceless!!!!
Sorry I got kinda sappy on you guys. I just can't say enough nice things about my preceptor.
Thank you everyone for your replies. FYI, our facility pays $1/hr with no floating, reduced # of assigned patients, no charge responsiblity and points earned for clinical ladder. I want the preceptors to be more involved in documenting competencies and setting goals for the novice nurse. We are considering other perks for the preceptor, like paying for seminars, etc. Thanks again for your help.

What does a preceptor do? I have seen it mentioned many times on this board and I have not ever heard of them before.
