Worth it to retake a class?

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Hey everyone!

So I'm applying to a bunch of different Accelerated BSN programs next year (I still have to complete my bachelor's in psychology this upcoming school year).

For one of the programs, they require Organic Chemistry I + lab and I already took this, however I unfortunately received a D in the course (for personal reasons). This program though said that if you retake a class, they will only consider the first grade you receive.

I was wondering if it was worth it to retake orgo anyways? I have no idea if the school will notice or care if I repeated the course and then did better the second time, despite saying they'll only consider the first grade received.

Sorry if this question is silly, but I would rather not waste my time or money so I'm wondering what you guys think.

Also, this program says that they require a grade of C or above in their prerequisites, so is it even worth it for me to apply with my D in orgo I?

P.S. The school that I'm talking about is Lehman College in New York.

Thanks in advance!

I would imagine that like almost every other nursing program in the country Lehman College receives more applications per cycle than they can admit... therefore if part of their entry requirements for the ABSN program is that only the 1st grade will be considered and that grade must be a "c" or better then I would not dare to presume that they "may not notice" or "not care if I repeated a course."

That being said, it could be worth it to retake the course if you (1) have the desire to better understand the material and/or (2) any of the other programs that you are considering require Organic Chemistry and will consider the repeated grade in place of the 1st attempt.

Best of luck.

I think you should contact the school directly.

Thank you! Yes that's very true, I'll definitely keep this in mind.

I tried, but they haven't responded! :'( So I was wondering what people on here would think, knowing that there is a good amount of people on here who have gone or are going through this process as well.

I would definitely go in during one of the advisement days when Dr. Georges is there and speak to her. She'd be able to help you out.
