was feeling overwhelmed, then visited birth center...

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

I'm finishing up prereq's and getting ready to apply to my local ADN program. I work part time and have a 13 month old. I'm taking A&P I and Dev Psych II. Needless to say, like most of you, I've been feeling overwhelmed and overworked!! ;) For a few brief seconds here and there, I've been wondering if I am crazy for making this career change (I have an MS, excellent career that pays much more than nursing will, but I hate it). Yesterday I went to see friends and their newborn in the hospital. Obviously I was excited to see the baby, but I hadn't realized how excited I would be just being at the hospital. It really helped to cemented my dream of becoming an L&D nurse/CNM. It was a nice reminder that this will be well worth the wait. Just wanted to share. :)

Specializes in Operating Room.

I know the feeling of "knowing". If I even see a hospital, there's a bond.

I've always been that way.

Good luck to you, and welcome to AllNurses.com!

Specializes in Pediatric/Adolescent, Med-Surg.

As a fellow L&D/CNM hopeful, I understand how exciting that must have been. Remember on the tough days your visit as a visual of what you hope to achieve. :)

I just got out of the hospital (kidney stones...ugh!). Funny thing is, all last week I contemplated quitting because I'm overwhlemed already and haven't even started nursing school, I start in January. Anyway, after being there for 4 days and having some of the most wonderful nurses care for me it made me realize how crazy I'd been thinking. This is what I've wanted to do and I think it took a nice long stay in the hospital to reaffirm my dreams. God has a funny way of working doesn't he? :)

Well, while I wouldn't wish kidney stones on anyone, I'm glad you had the chance to get "revived" in your goals. ;)

Good luck!

LOL! :chuckle I'll be 32 soon. That doesn't bother me, for some reason 25 hit me hard. Once I realized that high schoolers were calling me "ma'am" life was over as I knew it. :rotfl:

...and thank you! :)

It's not just seeing a hospital that gives me an adrenaline rush for my future nursing career. If I see or even just hear an ambulance, it instantly makes me think of hospitals....which makes me think of nursing....which gets me all excited....which makes me realize there's a light at the end of the (long!) tunnel!! :D LOL

Angel

(who's 35, so you young-un's just hush already! LOL)
