Quick Question About A&p

I just started my pre-reqs for nursing. In fact, this is my first semester all I have completed is English 101.

I work full time and it is really hard for me to take alot of classes - so I have decided to do 2 at a time (I know it is going to take forever.

I was planning on taking A&P I next semester.

Should I take it with Psychology 101, or with Math?

Which would be least difficult?

I want to get As in both classes.

Depends on how strong you feel about math. Psych can be a lot of writing. If your not really the strongest in math you might want to take it seperatly.

I took my pre reqs. one and two at a time as well, the more I got into school the more I could manage, but I started off taking two semesters back to back of just math by themselves, got my self caught up and my confidence back. I started in fall of 04 and I am starting the nursing program this January. It seems like it will go slow but stick with it and you will see it will be here before you know it!

If you are fairly comfortable with math I would take that. AP is A LOT of study time. There is TONS of information to cover, new words and physiological responses to learn. Psychology, as the above posters states, can be very time consuming with writing. You will be devoting lots of time to both these subjects. If you are not strong in math I would suggest taking these three classes separately. If you are applying to a nursing program that is strict about GPA I would not take chances on overwhelming yourself and face taking grades you would not normally get if you were not so stressed.

Do you think it is stupid then to take A&P by itself?

I really want to do good - even if it takes me a little more time.

But at the same time I almost feel like it is a waste of a semester if I only take one class - but I am scared that if I take it with something else then it will be too much for me - being that i work full time.

I am nervous about this class because it is very hard from what I have heard and I really want to get an A.

If I take it with something else I am scared I may not do well.

Any thoughts?

Like I said, if you are fairly comfortable with math take AP with Math. College Algebra was fairly simple for me, I really didn't study. I just did what the assignments were, which was not much. I had already taken AP I and II when I took Algebra but I could have easily taken both of those together. So it depends on your math abilities. I DO understand not wanting to 'waste' a semester, but TRUST me if you get a grade that you are not happy with and that grade keeps you out of your nursing program you will just end up repeating the course, so there is no gain there. It is a hard decision, but one I am sure you will make when you take all these things into consideration.

I'm also taking my pre-reqs for nursing. I take english I, psychology, math, and national government. It's better to take math because psychology takes a lot of studying.:nono:

The math is statistics - People say it is easy - is that true?

Because I am leaning towards either A&P alone, or with Statistics.

How does that sound? What do you think?

I gotta honestly say that you all are great. It is wonderful that I am confuswed with my classes and how you all help me. I really appreciate it,

Well I took AP statistics in high school last year and it was nothing I couldn' t handle.

Do you have any other committments outside of work? Such as children, husband, etc?

No kids or husband.

I work from 8-5 Mon-Fri.

I am thinking about going with A&P1 and statistics.

My school is like an hour from my house.

I'm wondering why you want to make A&P your second class? I am finishing my pre-reqs and made A&P the last one. I was really glad that I did as the study skills that I've gained in completing Psych and Statistics were very helpful, as was the info. from those classes. Also, I want the information from A&P to be fresh, if, God willing, I am accepted into the nursing program. Might want to consider Psych and Statistics together?? I have had semesters where I was working full time and going to school full time, but no way was I taking A&P with anything that was also very time consuming. This semester I took A&P 1 and Gerontology together. There's no shame in just taking A&P alone or with a less demanding class. You really want to give yourself LOTS of time for A&P. Don't worry about working full time and school. Don't rush. You can do it. The very best of luck to you!

I'm also working FT and need to take my pre-reqs for nursing. I already have a bachelor's in another field, and would be entering into an accelerated BSN program (god willing). My job is very demanding, and, at times, unpredictable (I work as a case manager and therapeutic mentor with kids with mental health problems). I'm also volunteering a couple of hours a week at the local hospital. I did really well in my first bachelor's program, but I'm really nervous about taking A&P I in addition to my current commitments, especially reading the comments about the course requiring a great deal of study time.

Like the OP, I also don't feel great about "wasting" a semester. I've debated working PT and taking a bunch of classes (I need a total of 3 for one program, and six for another), but there is no guarentee that I'd be admitted into a program when all was said and done, and, if I didn't get admitted, I'd be stuck looking for a job. It would also be a big financial sacrifice for my fiancee and I to swing that. So, right now, I'm starting with one class next semester, and I guess we will go from there....
