It's official......I'm nuts

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

:uhoh3:

I can't take it. I just can't take it anymore.

I check these forums everyday hoping to find someone an alum or applicant from the SFSU Nursing program. I Google all possible phrases similar to "SFSU Nursing students" to try and find someone who is in or has graduated from the program.

I found a website from the first graduating class at the Canada program (SFSU has a satellite program that people with a BA/BS can apply to - the main campus doesn’t take 2nd bach, so this program allows people to apply and earn their BSN from SFSU though classes are held at a community college in Redwood City called Canada College) and I just find myself being INSANELY jealous of them.:angryfire

I PRAY (mind you, I’m not religious) that I get in and waiting until the last week of this month or early April is EATING AT MY SOUL. :crying2:

Am I nuts? Nevermind. Don't answer that....I know the answer already, I'm just in denial. :trout:

*Sigh*

No phone call today :o I think its even harder because i applied almost 6 months ago  This is just about 3 weeks my file has been completed and i was told that it was with the admission committee on monday.

I know its the home stretch, but i'm beginning to really feel it now. I don't know whats worse, waiting for "the letter" or waiting for your phone to ring before you can get "the letter"

Did you apply to one school or multiple schools??

Sorry, hun. I know it's hard. I applied in Nov and won't hear until early April. Waiting sucks. it's hard for me to follow my own advice, but just hang in there...you'll be okay. It sounds like you have a great personality, so if you have an interview, I have faith that you will do excellent and wow them.

I, unfortunately, only applied to SFSU. Mostly because I still have 1 pre-req (Chem - Bleck.) in progress ad most school require that at the time of application, NO courses are in progress. Therefore, SFSU is basically the only was I was able to apply to.

At least we all have each other. I think these forms are a good distraction, though. I think the humor is helping me *tons*.

Hey thanks, i'm trying my best to keep my spirits up and keep thinking positive. There is this video dvd documentary called The Secret, its about the power of attraction, how if you want something and you think it, it will come to you, therefore if you think positive then positive with happen and if you think negative then negative will happen. Im trying had to stay positive and have faith everything will work out, but this stuff is hard.

I only applied to one school too, its a private school ADN. The beauty of this school is you can apply with none of the pre-reqs or all of them because they are integrated into the full time curriculum. If you wanna go part time then the majority if not all of them should be taken, but they don't penalize you if you don't, you just have to have a good plan in making sure they are completed before graduation. I originally intended to apply to two, this school and its sister school, but after the open house i was so in love with it, i just decided to put all my eggs in one basket. Then applying turned out to be soooo expensive. Between, the app fee, the million transcripts, the NLN pre- entrance exam, and getting my HS transcripts evaluated since I didn't go to HS in the US, it really got me. Getting my HS transcript evaluated alone cost $100, and the type of eval the other school wanted would have cost me another 160.

Hey we might not be applying to the same school, but you are right at least we have each other to lift our spirits.

mystiqx, i keep going to the website that i have my nursing shoes

picked out as well. hehe we got it bad!! hehe

M- what's the deal? Did they tell you that they would call you back when you called last time? Where did you leave it off last. Let's discuss this.

Well I called on Monday morning, I asked her on the status of my application and she went to check, she then told me it was with the admissions committee for decision, she didn't say how long it would take. Their website doesn't give much info on it either, it just says once the admin committee decides you are eligible you will be called in for an interview. When i went to the open house the asst dean said an interview pretty much ment you were in already half way through the door.

I don't want to pester them, but i don't know if it takes a week or two for them to review a file before they come to a collective decision.

And im even more worried because my transcript isn't so pretty, Ive got 2 degrees, over 154 credits and lots of screw ups :o

everything else is on point.

Im really really worried :o

How were your NLN scores and how are your science grades?

I have to admit that i have a lot of CRAP on my transcripts from 19991-92. I'm talking F's and D's. They really do take into consideration that people change if you've proven that you have!!

You have to remember that they are flooded w/ apps along with any other responsibilities they might have at the college. While you are chomping at the bit to get that phone call or letter, they're a little more lazy about getting them out or making the call. If I were to guess, it would probably be more time efficient for them to make a bunch of calls at once, than it would for them to review an app, call a prospective student.....review an app, call a prospective student....Know what I mean? Do you know anyone else that's gotten a call?

Would you feel comfortable calling them back again or emailing them? You have to remember that you are not the only anxious one. They're getting calls from a bunch of other eager students, too.

I wouldn't take it as a bad sign that you are not getting in. I mean, if they weren't interested, they could have sent out a "no thanks" letter right away.

I think you're still in the running and I bet you're going to get in.....but not before they make you lose hours upon hours of sleep. No doubt they'll make you sweat over it.

I don't know...I'd be inclined to call again. I'm that type A personality...I woudn't be able to wait. Maybe you should make a post about if you should or shouldn't call them back and get some opinions here. Someone might have some good advice.

Remember that some programs take their sweet old time. I'm so sorry you are dealing with the pressure right now. It's hard! I hope your cell rings for you tomorrow and that phone call makes your weekend!

Hang in there and vent, scream, and yell here!!

GottaGetIn (you should rename yourself IGotIN tee hee) thanks so much for your words of advice

I got a 124 composite 85 percentile, i really wanted a 90 or more percentile to make up for the grades at the very least, i studied for 2 months and was a little disappointed but its still a good score i think.

Yeah ive got loads of F's and D's, i must have repeated chemistry about 12 times but its not a major pre-req they only asked if you took at least one high school chem and one high school bio, as far as bio and a and P go i have B's. I honestly should have never repeated chem as many times as i did but i didn't know any better and i didn't get very good advisement during uni undergrad. Uni undergrad was a nightmare, i wanted med school at the time, didn't realise what it took and got thrashed soundly by the throat cutters. I changed majors and managed to get on the Dean's List but it was only enough that i could graduate. Its depressing and embrassing, my CC grades and GPA are a different story you would have thought its two different people when you compare the transcripts. I had to write a personal statement and i addressed my bad grades, i even said i tried other career options that didn't work out, im now wondering if that wasn't such a good idea. I work at one of the top if not number one cancer hospitals in the country this will be my fouth year coming up and I work with nurses, so all my references come from there, 2 from nurses and 1 from my manager and they are all stellar glowing references. Just my transcripts worry me a lot.

I sure hope you are right about them taking their sweet time about stuff, I don't know anyone who got an interview or accepted, there is only one other person i know from the forums who applied and she is waiting as well. What bothers me is that current students who were accepted got immediate phone calls as soon as their NLN scores were received they got scores in the 90's and at least 3.0 GPA's I think. See my worry now?

I was thinking of giving them the full week and then next monday give them a call. I hate to bother them, but im going nuts here.

It just sucks that i spent so much time and energy trying to find my way, screwed up along the way and now that i finally found it, i could potentially get penalized for screwing up.

I just want them to give me a shot...

:o
