Got at C+ in A&PI.... what would YOU do?

Hello everyone........I ended up with a C+ as a final grade in A&P1.......even though a C+ or better is required to enter my choice of nursing school, I kind of feel like I should take it over.....what would you do? :cry:

may go to ratemyprofessor.com and retake it with an easier teacher.

I would take it again as well. I don't recommend an easier professor though.

I know it's important to get accepted into the nursing program (if you aren't in yet) but it's better to know your true level of comprehension than an artificial level that may be gotten from an easier professor.

If you can get in with a C+ move forward, the nursing courses will reiterate everything you went over in A&P. If you need a higher grade to remain competitive to get into a program, then consider retaking. But if you can get in with a C+ definitely move forward, I have one semester of school left (Critical Care) and I got C's in both A&P1 and 2, and I have progressed without an issue.

Yeah, I mean if you think you can get in with a C then definitely go for it. All I know is for the competitive programs I'm dealing with you really need all A's! It's crazy.

i don't know if i would retake it if my other grades were really good. if all your other grades are in good shape then i agree with the others who have said to move on from it. my cousin had a "c" in anatomy and was accepted into her program just fine

In my school, unless you failed a course or received a "D" you are not allowed to retake the course.

If you must have "A"s to get into your choice school and you are allowed to voluntarily repeat a course, then I would retake it. If you need to have a high average plus a good/great score on the aptitude test, then I would simply work harder on the remaining courses and study hard for the aptitude test to max that score.

What amount of weight does your A&P grade have? I.e. Is it a large part of your points system (assuming that is what entrance into the nursing program is based upon)? I know for my school, the A&P grades (both I and II) weigh HEAVILY. They can account for up to 6 points (with A's), and count for at least 2 points (with Cs)-- and most people who enter have about 9 points.

All that said, if this grade weighs heavily---take it over. If not and you know you that the C won't affect your chances of getting in, don't worry about it.

If it were me, I would definitely retake it. I think you want to have your A+P grades as high as possible.

With regards to taking it with another professor, I agree with others who've said that you may want to switch. An "easier" professor rating is pretty subjective and not at all an indicator that you won't get the knowledge you need. In my mind, an easier teacher often equates with a better teacher.

In my case, I busted my hump to get a B+ in A+P1 with a notoriously bad professor, -- and then I took the second semester with a different (and highly recommended) professor and made an A in A+P2. I learned MUCH more in A+P 2. So, did I switch to an "easier" professor? No, I switched to a better professor and it made all the difference. Now, I never sign up for a class without polling people to ask their opinions of the teacher. If they don't sound good, I won't take the class with them.

I entered A+P 1 completely blind (it was the first pre-req I took after 20+ years away from school), with no knowledge of the professor and the very bad reputation that he had. But his was the only class with open seats when I applied, so I was stuck. In retrospect, that was a sign. The good professors tend to fill up early and I should have realized that.

Whatever you do, do not take A&P from an "easy" professor...take it from a rigorous but talented professor. You are building the foundation for your entire education here, and an easy class just isn't going to cut it.

Retake it and go to rate my professor, if you are taking it at a University maybe you should retake a community college. They have a lot more professors to teach the class. At UTA they only have one professor that teaches AP I and II, so a lot of the students take it at a CC and they make As and get accepted to nursing school at UTA
