I just wanted to start a thread for CUNY York College Generic Nursing 2016 applicants. I applied and I'm hoping to hear from others who applied as well. I would also appreciate any current York College nursing students' comments about the program and/or their NLN scores/GPA upon admission. I know we won't hear a decision until June, but I thought I'd start this thread for any questions/support. Good luck to everyone who applied!

I know it is a very old post, and you probably have gotten an acceptance letter from York. However, if you did get accepted, could you share some of your experience? I am considering York College, and will be applying in a year or so.

Sorry for the late response, but I haven't been on here for a while. I just completed my first semester of York's Generic Nursing Program. So far it seems like a good program. We have a class of 36 students and we all work together to succeed. Our professors are very supportive. We have optional open lab to practice our skills multiple times per week, which is very helpful. There have been several different clinical sites in Queens, Brooklyn, and Manhattan. I got placed at Kings County Hospital in Brooklyn for my first semester and we learned a lot there. What else would you like to know about the program?

OMG, thank you so much for replying back! I am so happy to hear that your time at York has been great thus far. I am a bit sentimental, but it is great to hear such good stories, since I will be applying to the program in a year or so.

So, from your post I gather that Generic Program only accepts 36 students per year, or semester? As far as clinical goes, how do you get to yours? I mean, Kings County Hospital is all the way in Sheepsheadbay, right? How do you like your clinical instructors so far? How would you say the grading criteria has been for you? I have read so much about the Nurses Eat Their Young thing. Have you faced it? If so, is it that bad as many people say it is? Like I said I will be applying to the program this summer, so what would you say will make my application stand out? As of right now my undergrad GPA is 4.0, as well as my pre-req's GPA. I am going to start volunteering in a couple of hospitals in a few weeks. That is all I have to put on my resume so far.

P.S. do you go full-time or part-time? In any case, is it possible to work while going to school?

I am applying for Nursing at York for 2019. It will be very nice if someone can let me know about the GPA requirement and NLN score. Also how competitive the program is. I heard some of the students just drop after their first class. Please let me know so that I can make the right decision. Thank you.

I am currently in the nursing program at York College, and I will be graduating in December. Each year they have been accepting more students. My cohort (6) started with 36 students and we currently have 33. The year after mine, York accepted approximately 50 students. The GPA requirement is hard to put an exact number on because it depends who else applies. I know it has to be above 3.0 for the specified classes. Also, the NLN requirement is to get above the 50th percentile. Some students do drop, but unlike many other programs, we are supported to pass. The professors are not trying to weed anyone out. If you are serious about nursing, York has a great program, and I encourage you to apply. I hope this helps and good luck!

You would have to contact The Committee on Academic Standards about re-admission and I think you'll be placed on probation.

I got accepted for the upcoming semester but I just found out that I'm expecting. I'd prefer to not take time off but my due date is two week into the spring semester. Hopefully they don't give me a problem because I'm excited to start
