Both Micro and Human 2 (A&P2) this summer?

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

:angryfireAhhh...So yesterday I found out that when you apply at my school for acceptance in the spring semester of nursing, your prerequisite classes need to be done by the 10 week mark. Both micro and human 2 are 15 week classes. I want to start in the spring because I don't want to have to wait another year to start.

So I'm left with two options and neither one of them are great

1. Take both Micro and Human 2 this summer. Human 2 is from 2:00-4:50 MTWTH and Micro is 5:30-6:45 MTWTH with Lab 7:00-9:40 MW.

---which will suck because its a 2 month class and I'll have to cut back greatly on work and I'll become a hermit because I'll have so much work to do I'll need tons of caffeine!

or

2.Take Micro in the fall and Human 2 in the spring and start next fall.

---I don't really want to wait another year. It screws up the financial situation and I'm ready to start this program and get into a career I love.

What is everyone's opinion on this situation? Has anyone done this?

Mine start May 29th and end Jul 5th (I think). The nutrition class goes till Aug 4th.

I'm doing both AP2 and Micro this semester. I don't know if you have kids but I have a 3 year old so I spend a lot of nights up late since it's the only good time for quiet time. My hubby goes to bed late too so by the time it's entirely quiet it's like 12am. But they are doable together. You probably won't have much of a life for the summer but I dont think much of us will for the next 2 years anyway :)

do what you've got to do. if you really want or need to get them done by a certain date, you can work to meet that goal.

in my first quarter of prereqs, i did a&p i (& lab) + micro (& lab) + accelerated psych.

now, in my third & last quarter of prereqs, i'm doing a&p iii (& lab) + pharmacology + pathophysiology + nutrition & disease (at a university 50 miles from home) + paramedic refresher class on saturdays.

i need to get the prereqs out of the way by june, and i will.

good luck!

I thought i'd be safe and take one at a time,

as it turns out i think i could've done Anat and phys (seperate classes) at the same time. Now i have to take Micro in 5 wks in the summer. :uhoh21:ewww.

there is a girl in my phsyio class that's taking A, P, Micro, English1 and I think she said nutrition all this sem. I couldn't believe it. :uhoh3::uhoh3:! but she's doing it.

I am currently in Micro and AP2 and so far in all four courses (lectures and labs) I have A's. Micro is a bit easier for me for some reason but AP2 is much more interesting. Its hard. You will be studying a lot. I don't work outside the home but I am a SAHM to three children under 7. So it will take some budgeting of the time. That being said, its about drive, believe in yourself and you can do it!! (You and Starbucks  )

Hi BlessedMom!

I was wondering how you did in your classes. I hope you don't mind me asking. I have four kids, ages 2-11, and if I want to get all my prereqs done before I start NS in the Fall of '08, then I'll end up taking Micro and Adv A&P next summer! They are both two month courses, and science is my strong point. But, I'm wondering if I'm crazy! Mostly because it's Summer and my kids won't be at school.

BTW, I make my own Starbuck's type coffee, and it has saved my a ton. Anyone else do this?

Good luck, dear..

I know you asked someone one else how they were, but I got a notification about it, and since I started the thread freaking out about how i'd get it done, I figured I'd give you and everyone an update. Both class are going surprisingly well.

I love micro, its a blast and think can easily be condensed. AP is more my thing, but an 8 week version of it is ridiculous. We cover a system in a day and then have an exam on it the next day. My life has been hectic. This week I had a test monday, test tuesday, today off and a test tomorrow. It makes me want to scream. But, I still somehow managed to get a 100% on my last test!

For doing two classes and both at the same time, I'm proud of every good grade I get. It's been harder to get A's on every test because they're back to back, but for doing both and having an A in one class and a 89(could be A after she counts some extra assignments) I feel like I'm conquering these classes. I haven't been working though, so if you have to work, I really can't see it working out too well. It's almost impossible for me to find time because I go to school 9-5 and then have hours of hw/studying. I wish you the best of luck with everything :)

Well, if I want to have all my prereqs done before I start NS in the Fall of '08, then this is what my schedule will be:

Fall '07

A & P I

PSY 101

ENG 111

COM 102

Spring '08

A & P II

PSY 205

ENG 112 or 211

MAT 112 or 118

Summer '08

BIO 201

ANP 201

The sciences would be on site classes, and all the others would be online. Three of my four kids will be in school all day, so that is when I plan to study and do homework.

Is this manageable? Basically, I would have the weekend and Monday to prepare for A & P on Tuesday, and then one day each to devote to the three online classes (W, T, F).

Would this work, or am I nuts? LOL

Wow, you need even more prereqs than I do, it seems! Is that all for your ASN, or are you applying to a BSN program?

Katie

online classes make it a lot more feasible. They're more flexible. I took a schedule like that and got A's so you should do fine. Make sure to have some time to just be a bum and have some peace, otherwise you will lose your mind. Good luck :)

I am in a BSN program right now at a university, but cannot progress to the nursing phase until I finish the science pre reqs. I can start clinicals in either the fall or spring semester, but set up my schedule like that so I can start fall of 08 and not spring of 09
