A&P 1 Spring 08

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Hi y'all! Anybody taking A&P 1 this coming spring semester? I'm trying to get as many pre-req's out of the way as possible and could use a study buddy or 2! Thanks! :)

types of neurons - the three main types of neurons are:

multipolarneuron.gifmultipolar neuron

unipolarneuron2.gifunipolar neuron

bipolarneuron.gifbipolar neuron

thanks, the main reason i ask is because they (to me) look alike. i am taking ap1 online and have a lab to do where i build a 3-d model for these three and want to make sure i am doing them correctly.

What about when it comes to the 'drawings' of all three?

For a simple drawing, go to the Tortora text website:

http://bcs.wiley.com/he-bcs/Books?action=chapter&bcsId=2287&itemId=0471689343&chapterId=16776

Choose Chapter 12 from the pull-down menu. Click on Anatomy Drill and Practice. Then click on "Structural Classification of Neurons". You'll see all 3 types drawn.

Good luck!

:yeah: I got my results back for my first test (CH 1-4) I got a 100% in both my lecture and lab I know that with the :bowingpur Lords help and all that studying paid off:bugeyes:

Now I need to start on my my next test (Bones).

Congrats and good job!!!:yeah:

hello everyone!! sincerely wishing every well in the studies..i will be taking AP in the summer of 2008...how nervous I feel about this, especially after reading thru the posts!!! i have begun studying on my own, anywhere i can find info...i started making index cards and understanding the vocab (posterior, anterior, superior ect), i am trying to learn the all the systems of the body, their functions, major organs, the bones, muscles, tissues etc...i am hoping to get a jump start on this, as i am worried that i will be overwhelmed and lost once i start class...(plus, i work a full time job and have a family- don't want to fall behind before I even start) I find it HARD to understand this chemistry and cells aspect of this...what else should I be doing to prepare? Is there anything else that I absolutely must learn in AP, that I have not mentioned..Thank you all and God Bless

I was going to ask something similar to IsItPossible's question (just above). I'm seriously thinking of going down the long hard road to being a nurse (if I can get enough money pulled together, but that's another story), and was wondering if there's any particular textbook that a lot of you use for A&P? Any particular on-line study sites? Things like that. I'd like to get a head start on some of these tough-sounding classes as well.

Thanks in advance :yeah:

hi gizmosmom - hopefully someone will shed some light for us. but in the meantime, i found this site, and they drop biology hints in my mailbox daily..nice because not overwhelming...simple ideas to build on and learn slooowwwly....here it is;[email protected]

and if you find anything please let me know as well...thanks!!!

There are many books/websites/flashcards/charts/posters available to study from, the thing is each school/instructor will be emphasizing different things. The biggest thing I would study before entering the class is the muscoskeletal system. Start by learning all the names of the bones, and I mean all of them. Then focus on the different structures of the major bones, your tuberosities and trochanters and epicondyles, and ramuses. Know how and with what they articulate with. Be able to recognize all this by the individual bone, not on a full model. This is a large section of A&P in that if you do not grasp this, everything that follows will be much harder.

Give yourself extra time during the semester to study and work in groups with the "brainiacs" helping the "strugglers" This will benifit both types of student.

Don't just go out and buy flash cards, but make them. The more time you spend working on the subject, the more th information will stick, then carry those cards with you everywhere. This will help you study for short intense bursts instead of sitting down for 6 hours and absorbing little. Then on test day, relax. Eat well, and don't study anymore. If you did all the other things, the info will be there. All :)you have to do after that is enjoy your success.

After my midterm last tuesday we didn't have a lecture (and thus no lab this week either) and I've had the week off studying for a&p. I have so much free time that I barely know what to do with myself even though I have other classes- I can't imagine what it'll be like when this course is done! Studying for the midterm wore me out (worth 30%) but I think it went well!

Just wanted to say good luck to everyone who's preparing for midterms and stressing out!!

Hooray!! I got a 100 on my midterm lab practical (haven't recieved the grade for the written exam yet), and next week we start the cat dissection!! I am very excited, just needed to celebrate a bit LOL

nice job!!

I got a high A on my midterm so I'm here to brag as well, haha

The sad news is that I've discovered that I will not be able to be a nurse, so after this course I will unfortunately leave you guys. I have severe eczema on my hands (usually so bad that I cannot fully extend or flex my fingers) and I guess I really didn't want it to interfere with my life but the amount of hand washing required to be a nurse would cripple my hands and I feel uncomfortable constantly having open wounds when dealing with various bodily fluids- not to mention exposing patients to me . After seeing a few doctors trying to fix my hands I've decided that this is not going to work no matter how much I want it to- I'm actually hoping I don't get in to the schools I've applied for because it will be that much worse to have to refuse acceptance.

well, it's been an exciting ride :) anyway- good luck everybody!

I say don't give up. There may be a dietary reason for the skin problem. Don't limit your options. Ride it out for awhile and try to investigate further. I am a chiropractor going after my RN. There have been instances where milk or other food products have caused skin reactions. That is just one example. There may also be emotional issues that may lessen over time. Just don't give up yet!:paw:
