Pre-nursing student in need of advice!!!!!!

Published

Hi, i need some help an advice on choosing my fall 2010 prerequisite classes. ive never been to college and im getting frustrated about all this. anything would help. thank you !

First in order to choose pre reqs you need to know what they are. Look at some of the local schools in your area that you might want to attend, the pre reqs should all be listed online. Then begin taking the ones that all the schools require. You might want to start by just taking two nursing pre reqs and one general class like english comp or something.

thank you for your help! :)

Make an appt with an advisement counselor. Different schools have different pre-reqs.

Counselor would be the first stop. Also, does your local comm college require that you take a placement test (I am assuming you are going the community college route, correct me if I'm wrong). Some schools require a certain level of math ability to take A&P courses. Some require a certain level of writing and reading comprehension to begin other classes. I had to take a cell biology class in order to take A&P at my school. I spent 2 months studying algebra before taking the placement test so that I could avoid math classes. Find out how difficult it is to get into some of your pre-reqs. After reading a number of posts from So Cal students, it looks like the supply of classes isn't keeping up with the number of students. It's not all bad news but just find out what you can expect by talking to a counselor.

Counselor would be the first stop, till you figure out that they lead you in most cases on a wild goose chase and tell you to take 100 level classes that won't transfer nor count towards anything.

Go to your schools web site and find the the list of classes you need for pre-req's

Next go to : ratemyprofessor.com and pick and choose.

See what you can glean from your schools website. Look for the nursing application and see if you can find all the classes necessary to graduate with the nursing degree. Ours is called an associated of applied sciences. You might find it in an on-line catalog as well. I was so clueless about starting school but I had an idea of what classes I would need to take. I took the placement test about 10 days before school started. My advisement counselor got me into my first class. I was extremely lucky to get in being 3rd on the wait-list.

Do you have a link to your college? I'm happy to walk you through the process. In most cases its straight forward, plus I have nothing to do for the next half hour

You have time to get in at the last minute if classes start on the 13th. But you can't waste time. If you can't get an appointment to take the placement tests yet, that just means you can't take your English or math class until you get the placement test out of the way. Like advised, get your list of required courses from the website. I can bet you will need Psych 1, maybe Bio 1 (prerequisite to anatomy at some schools), and maybe chem 1 (prerequisite to anatomy, micro, or phsiology at some schools). Another guess would be Speech 1. That would be a full load there without the English or math and you should be able to still find open sections even this late in the registration process. Good luck.
