Pre NS anxiety/cold feet!

Hi everyone, I don't know if I need a pep talk, or my but kicked, or just to write this out... I can't help but feeling really, really anxious these past couple of days. Now that I've been accepted (I am super, super happy), I'm finally registered, locker reserved, paid, so now it's really official!:D I'm now a nursing student! (the last major things I have left to do is finish my medical forms/TB tests/HepB shots and get some more books and some new clothes/shoes).:)

So, now that's it's official... I'm sitting, staring at my schedule, and freaking out... I'm excited but so anxious, and nervous! I'm freaking out, "it's really happening" I'm going to nursing school, I'll be a RN, this is really happening, I'm I really going to get through this? Am I really gonna make it?... :uhoh3::eek:

Is this normal? I'm I getting cold feet? I don't doubt for a second my desire to be a nurse:nurse:, I'm just so nervous and anxious... Orientation is in 20 days, school starts in 28 days!!!!!!!!! I've waited for so long, did my prereq's, blah, blah, blah, and now it's really happening, OMG!!! Am I really up for it? What have I got myself into? I need to survive NS! "this is the first day of the rest of your life" kinda thing... Anyone else feels this way?

It feels a bit better when I got it off my chest, any advice on how to keep the anxiety under control? :clown:

Thanks for reading.

Oh my gosh I am RIGHT where you are... I think its totally normal... I keep freaking out to my bf and friends and they all tell me to sush, that ill do great blahbalh... but I still cant help but freak out! I had orientation a few days ago and I think it set in more once I realized how many people in my class had previous experience with healthcare... emt, ma etc... I think we should just let our hearts drive us and go for it all out! Its only the beginning but honestly...I think being nervous and anxious just shows character...best of luck :)

really? you feel like that too? That's a relief, I though I was the only one freaking out at the last minute like this, like I'm getting married and getting cold feet or something lol! Thanks, best of luck to you too!

i've had HORRIBLE anxiety since right before i started this whole nursing school experience and it gets better with time, trust me! right now you just dont know what to expect. its all very new/scary/exciting/overwhelming. im going into my senior year, staring at and thinking about my schedule to come and it still scares the crap out of me. just thinking about it makes me sick to my stomach but im excited at the same time! some things i've tried to deal with the intense anxiety is really to just stop and breathe. its OK to be nervous and anxious, but stop and deep breathe for a few minutes, it really calms me down. also, it helps SO MUCH to find a friend or 2 or 3 in your class that you can bond with and share your experiences with and who may also share your anxiety. if you talk things out, its an outlet for your emotions. no one with understand you better while you're in nursing school than your teachers and classmates.

This is normal! I am instructor and the huge majority of students arrive anxious. Just keep in mind a few things:

-You are more than likely capable of doing this or you would not have been admitted.

-Your success is within your reach, just remember to work hard, seek help early, but leave time for some fun

-The huge majority of instructors want nothing more than to see you succeed in becoming a safe, excellent nurse

-This is finite, you will survive! Just tell yourself: I can do anything for two years.

-look at the big picture of what needs to be done in the semester only briefly. Write down your due dates, etc, of course, but don't look at it as this huge mountain of stuff to accomplish. Get ahead, but tell yourself that each week you will set the priorities for your life. This can help keep you from being so overwhelmed.

Good luck! :nurse:

omg I have orientation in 8 days and school starts in 13! I'm so nervous. I have no practice in the medical field and I hope I don't fail.

I'm also anxious!!!! I am trying to stand on my faith, but my flesh keeps winning. I know that I want this more than anything, ever since I was a child. I have been on this site and many others researching to death what tips I can use to prepare me for nursing school. I know that I'm driving my husband crazy.:uhoh3: I need to remember how far I have come and stand on God's word everyday!!!!

OMG I thought it was just me! Normally I am alittle anxious. I too got accepted 2 months ago and start in 3 weeks and I am starting to doubt myself. Everyone in my family knows I'm going to be a nurse and I feel like if I dont make it I'll let myself and everyone down. I hope I can do it. I am glad I am not the only one feeling like this.

trust me, everyone in your class will be extremely nervous as well so you're not alone! plus, all your teachers are nurses and therefore know what it was like to be nursing students, so they understand and are there to walk you through every step of the way. Even if other people have some experience, nursing school is new to all of you. its kinda cool, because we all start with a clean slate!

im about to start my second semester of nursing school, and even though i have one semester of experience behind me im still nervous too. better get used to that feeling! haha there's new/exciting/scary stuff all along the way

Good luck!!! :D
