Pre-ABSN Jobs

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

I'm graduating a semester early in Fall 2015 with a BS in Family and Child Sciences with a certificate in developmental disabilities (and all of my pre-reqs), and I want to enter into an accelerated program in 2016. I want to get a job in the healthcare system during Spring 2016. I was considering getting my CNA certification, but I was wondering if there were any other options that I haven't thought about. Thanks for the help!

Two things I'd consider in your position. 1.) Getting a job doing ANYTHING in a hospital. At least in my area, schools love to see any type of health care experience, from nursing assistant to front desk. It just means you have seen what the environment in like and are still willing to pursue it. 2.) Skip the job an volunteer at a hospital. If you can volunteer a few days a week and get a job doing something that pays decently that's probably a good option.

I'm doing #2 now and love it!

Keep in mind that it may not be feasible to work while you are in an ABSN program - the "accelerated" factor means that it may be too demanding to maintain decent grades while working. So, I would encourage you to seek that CNA job as soon as you can in order to get some clinical experience.

Ahaha Of course not, that would be crazy! I have a free semester in between graduating and entering an ABSN program, so I want to get some experience. Thanks for the help :)
