I desperately need your prayers. I take my skills test on Oct. 7th and I feel so unprepared. I only had three days of clinicals. I am a slow learner so that was not enough time for me. I keep reading and rereading my handbook and watching videos. I am practicing my skills with my mother a couple of times a week.
I need to pass. I need the extra income and the purpose that a CNA job will give me. Please pray.

I will pray for you. Keep practicing! I used a Barbie and a washcloth to practice with on the way to my exam. She didn't complain at all. Do your best and talk your way through it. You have plenty of time to prepare yourself.

I'll pray for you too. Just treat your patient like he or she is a close friend or family member. Chat with them all the while you are doing your skills--while explaining what you are doing. If you catch yourself forgetting something, just back up & do what you need to do. Safety & privacy are the biggies. And always ask your patient for to assist you in doing the skill. You'll do fine. It's really a piece of cake! The hard part is getting past the nerves. Good luck!

I know how you feel. I take my skills test next Friday. I know I know the material, and the steps, but I'm just afraid my nerves will make my mind go blank. There's no way to know if that's going to happen, and I hope during the next week my practicing will pay off. Everyone I know who has been in this situation keeps telling me I'll do great. I want to believe. But it's scary no doubt.

The written part is very easy, and the only hard part about the skills test is feeling so nervous. As long as you're studying and practicing, you won't need our prayers!

It's true, you're supposed to converse with the patient, but there are no rules about what you have to talk about, just that you are cheerful and respectful. Many people who have passed successfully have reported that simply saying each step out loud (addressing the actor/patient) is both helpful for them to stay focused, and also satisfies the requirement of engaging the patient in conversation. Plus I think it might help with the relaxation thing. Hey and you know what? I like to use humor to relax and there's no harm in, after you do the essential knock/intro/explain/wash/pull curtain routine that you can't smile and ask the actor to please say a little prayer that you will get through the skill successfully! It might be a nice ice-breaker...
