Potty accidents

im sure we all dealt with those students who didn't make it on time to the restroom because they were playing, or simply just didn't make it on time.

One student in particular, an ongoing issue since last year is constantly defecating on himself, and we are calling parents for change of clothing etc.

Today mom was just in tears, felt helpless, and just didn't know what else she could do to avoid this from happening.

offered her the option of sending student with depends and change of clothing so he can change and clean self, student states he waits til last min because hes playing or that the noise scares him from the flushing.

have anyone encountered a similar situation?

I'm really amazed at the number of clinics without bathrooms or sinks. That's a requirement from the state health department here. I can't imagine not washing my hands 8,265 times a day!

Thank you so much for all the information, it opens a new door to possibly finding the answer. Also parents are a tad bit older, and i think he is also the only child, with that being said, when the topic of emotional issues comes up they only thing that comes to mind is that students seems to be more on the feminine side, ( which i have nothing against) but parents seem to be strict on religion which may cause some conflict on accepting or understanding. Again all this is just from what i have been observing in the last 2 years.

The accidents are occurring usually after lunch/lunch recess that because he gets caught up playing he "forgets" student is a second grader so around 8 years old. i advised mom i would get him after his lunch and take him to the restroom and wait for him outside, hoping that will somewhat minimize these types of accidents. apparently student was already taken to pediatrician for some test, things came out normal,

Too bad about not having a restroom in your clinic...contemplate letting him use a staff restroom, where he can be alone and uninterrupted, on a strict restroom schedule; after lunch, before recess, etc. If his feet don't touch the floor find some stool so his thighs are slightly above his butt. Have him sit for 5 minutes unless he poops before that. Ask mom to bring several changes of clothes to school and when he has a poop accident let him take care of it - everything - solo - don't involve mom other than to let her know a sack of poop clothes is coming home today. He takes full ownership of this. There are likely dynamics out there you are not aware of but if you set a consistent environment at school, he'll eventually mature out of it. Good luck. Let us know how it turns out.

In all seriousness, I have considered buying a Squatty Potty for my office restroom to help with constipation. I might just do that this year...
