There are several classes required for graduation in addition to the pre-reqs and nursing classes - poli sci, eng2, nutrition, sociology, another psych, patho... you can get a copy of the course outline on the college website. Try a different advisor - they should be able to get you the info...

You should also attend one of the info meetings, don't know if they are still required before you apply (probably).

I just found this on the wcccd website. I think they incorporate the 'gen ed' requirements into the program (i.e. you shouldn't have to take any more than are listed on the nursing flier). I too am a mom of two, in my 30s and just about to start the pre-reqs for nursing (at OCC). Good luck to you in whatever you choose! :-)

I spoke with advisors before starting WCCCD (I start the nursing program this month), and what you see in the catalog is it: nothing more, nothing less. You can burn through the pre-reqs in 3-4 semesters if you can handle a full-time schedule (or 6-8 if half-time). The pre-reqs are Eng 119, Psy 101, Bio 155 (a hidden pre-req; not explicitly mentioned, but necessary for the Anat/Phys), Bio 240, Bio 250, Bio 295. (I *might* be missing one.) Aside from the pre-reqs and NUR classes, there are a few "co-reqs" as they're called - a political science (like American Government), SOC 100, DT 130, BIO 252, PSY 200 (previously HSC 200), HSC 100.

You do still need to attend a nursing info. meeting, but you don't need to have that done until you're ready to apply. In the mean-time, if I can be of any help (teacher recs, requirements, etc), my MSN contact email in my profile is also my email address.

Was hoping to take as many pre reqs as possible that way so I can still work. Also, I can't believe there is only med math and no chem. What about on the teas? That freaks me out!Was there a wait to get into program? I have soo many questions....:)

No worries! You can just click here, click "Contact Info" and just look for "MSN."

I've taken a few classes online. Many people love them, but it's just not for me - I'm too apt to procrastinate. For the Bio classes (except Patho), you'd still need to go to a campus for the labs. It might be kind of pointless to take Microbiology online, since you have lab twice a week in that class. Some classes, though, like psychology (PSY 101), Lifespan Development (PSY 200/HSC 200), English (ENG 119, ENG 120), etc can be pretty easy online. I've heard pathophysiology is easier online as well.

Yep, no chemistry! However, I've heard that taking it can help. I took a few extra classes (ALH 110/Medical Terminology, SOC 120/Death & Dying, chemistry, etc) while taking my pre- and co-reqs, and after looking through the nursing books, I can already tell those classes will help me. :lol2:

I lucked out and got to avoid the TEAS - my entering class is the last one to have gotten to take the NET - but this site indicates that the TEAS consists of four areas: math, reading, English, and science. The NET had those areas as well, but the science area was minute and, insofar as I know, didn't count against us.

WCCCD doesn't do a wait-list (Henry Ford, of course, does), thankfully! I applied in June 2009, was accepted in September (our "happy letters" were delayed), went to my orientation on November, and start on the 19th of this month. I started classes in summer 2007, but I got all of my co-reqs out of the way as well as my pre-reqs, and didn't take BIO 155 my first semester, so it took me longer to be ready to apply. ^^

ShannonW - Chemistry, ugh! You must be so excited to start school! Did it really take several months to find out that you were accepted? That would be an agonizing wait! Wonder why there is no wait at WCCC but there is one at HFCC? As soon as final registration for this semester is over I'm going to go to the school and start getting all my ducks in a row. I went to speak with adviser on Tues -with my 2 yr old son- and got nothing accomplished! I wasn't thinking that it was the last week of registration and was unprepared for the chaos! And the advisor was unprepared for a clueless thirty something with a toddler!

Indeed, indeed. The last day to apply for a spring semester start is the last day in June the previous year (in my case, June 30th, 2009 was the last day to apply to start in Spring 2010, and I applied June 15th, 2009); the last day to apply for a Fall semester is the last day in February. For this year, that means that the last day to apply for the Fall 2010 semester is February 28th, 2010. We were told we'd get our happy letters in August, but for one reason or another, they were delayed until late September. It was a long wait, but that didn't matter once we got the letters! :lol2:

Im thinking you may have a much better chance of getting into a program if there was a waiting list. There is no wait list at OCC either. That probably just means they turn a lot more people away and they have to reapply the next year while they retake classes to raise their gpa.

I too attend WC3 and am trying to apply to the nursing program. I have taken all of my co req's and I am doing my A&P right now. I was a procrastinator because I am scared of science classes!:) I have always been good with my grades but science takes a lot out of me! I will hopefully be able to apply to the nursing program in September 2010 to get in for spring of 2011. Not sure of what campus you will be going to but I know of a teacher that is excellent for science. She is at the downtown campus and her name is Mrs. Byrd. She was really tough but she taught you EVRYTHING you needed to know plus some. Her classes fill up quick so you may not be able to get in any this semester but be on the lookout for her if thats the campus you choose.

I have also taken some online classes and personally I LOVE them! Not only do you know your grade every step of the way because they post the grades within 2 to 3 days of turning in the assignment but in a way you are doing everything on your time. I have a daughter, husband, and a full time job so its really hard for me to be away from home in the evenings for class. if I would have discovered online classes before last semester I def would have done more. Now that I am down to the science classes I have no choice but to go to class :sniff: Hope this helps you some and good luck!!

Have you been to the nursing seminar yet? That was the first thing I did (both OCC and MCC) and I found it to be really informative! OCC, e.g., has over 700+ applicants each year but they only take ~260ish (a little more if they offer the accelerated). If they had a wait list, it would take YEARS to get in! Best bet is to make yourself the cream of the crop (I'm soooo keeping my fingers crossed that all goes well and I can do that this year!)! :-) OU, on the other hand, does offer a wait list for their BSN program and the wait is now up to 3+ years - I'll have my ADN by then and be working (again, if all goes well :-)!

Jazz, thanks for the reply. I have never been able to attend an info session yet because they are always during my class time! I have to wait until March to get into a meeting that doesnt conflict with my schedule. I am really working to keep my grade point up. I am also thinking about a plan B incase this doesnt work out for me.
