Post Masters FNP after WGU

Updated:   Published

I am a long ways off from doing this, but I am starting to research now. Has anyone completed a Post Masters FNP after their MSN at WGU? Were you MSN Leadership or Education? I am trying to decide if I want to stay in the RN-BSN program and then apply to another school for FNP MSN or if I would be better off changing to the RN-MSN at WGU and then doing the Post MSN certificate. To top it all off, we are moving across the country in the next year, so it may make a difference in where I end up.

My husband is planning on doing this (not FNP, but AGNP). He's calculated that it will probably shave 6 months off his total time in the NP program, and a couple thousand dollars. I think he's planning on doing leadership.

I am currently working towards my BSN to MSN Leadership at WGU. My plan is to do post masters FNP or DNP. I just started though. I've looked around this forum and seen others who have done it or who are currently doing it.

Curious to know if the three P's WGU is now offering transferred to other schools? I am looking at University of Southern Indiana's Post NP program. The program is two years long-with one class per semester. The whole first year consists of: Fall-Advanced Patho, Spring-Advanced Pharm & Summer-Advanced Health Assessment.

If I'm thinking correctly.. if the classes at WGU measure up to these course descriptions, and are transferred in as being equal, that will leave the entire program with one year of classes plus 600+ clinical hours.

Anyone have any insight?

Only patho transfers. WGU's pharm is basic when compared to advanced pharmacology and you have to definitely retake the health assessment portion

I'm a WGU alum and just started a post-master's FNP program yesterday. Only my advanced health assessment class transferred. I'm currently taking an accelerated advanced pharm course (8 weeks---yikes!) and a health promotion class. Only 4 didactic classes total, so not too bad.

CLUVRN: Would you mind sharing what program you have entered? I am getting ready to start WGU's Nursing Ed program with plans to teach on the collegiate level and eventually want to get the post-grad cert FNP and then PhD. But I have been worried that a lot of places wouldn't accept WGU degrees because of the GPA and/or because it's online (and some folks still don't understand that you can get a valuable degree online these days).

I applied to several post-master's NP programs and got accepted to every one. The school I decided to attend is Herzing University. I chose this program because the didactic portion is online (clinicals are obviously completed in person with a preceptor), I only had 4 didactic courses to complete, and I can finish the entire program in 16 months. I know there are some nay-sayers about this school, but I chose the program that best fit my lifestyle and schedule. The school is regionally/CCNE accredited (I did my research to make sure of this). This met all of my criteria that I look for in a school. Hope this answers your question!

Yes it does! WOW That you got accepted to all you applied for! This really calms my fears about being able to find a program that fits for me. Thanks! :)

what is the name of the school you currently attend for the post-m,asters FNP

CLUVRN, MSN, RN. I am starting Herzing in July. I am also a WGU alum. Herzing accepted for transfer Advanced Pharm, Advanced Patho and Pharmacotherapeutics courses. Your advanced health assessment class transferred? When did you take this course? I took a comprehensive health assessment for patients and populations course in 2016 (it was very rigorous and we were required to submit a video assessment as well). Curious to know your response and how things are going for you? Did you start clinicals yet, how was it solidifying a preceptor? Thanks!!

I am also looking into a post masters fnp program and my MSN is from WGU in leadership and management. I am looking into the University of Southern Indiana which was mentioned above and I was wondering if they did accept the 3 P’s from WGU?
Thank you!
