Possible to take A&P without any Bio?

Published

I will have completed Microbio, but no straight Biology since high school many years ago. Do the pre-req requirements vary or will they all want me to have Bio?

It depends on your school. I am currently taking A&P and they don't require Bio. Good luck!

My school recommends Bio before A&P, but does not require it. I start A&P I in January but it's been over 10 years since I took Bio in college, but I think I will be ok. Good luck! :wink2:

It's the same at my school. Bio is recommended, but not required. I didn't take bio and am making A's, and I was very worried about not being on the same page as other students...depends on how strong you are on staying on top of the material and studying.

Some schools require Bio before anatomy, and some schools do not. Just as some schools require chemistry before physiology and some schools do not. The prerequisites are individual for each school although most pretty much require the same courses. Most people start out with the prerequisites that are required of all the programs that they intend to apply to, then they take the one or two unique ones at the end so that they meet the entrance requirements for all the schools. A pain, but necessary.

My school requires Bio 121 prior to taking A&P and Micro. Although you may be able to get through A&P without it, it would be helpful to review some Bio material, at minimum. I'm glad I took Bio over the summer, before taking A&P. It has been most helpful.

We were handed a 60 question test in my first A&P class....all on Biology and Chemistry. They want to see where everyone stands, as there are apparently many people that are not prepared. After the test, I overheard quite a few students discussing how they had NO CLUE about the test questions! I felt good about it, however.

At mine you needed to have it at least from HS. anything after that was recommended but not required. I still took it, and Im glad I did. But if you already passed Micro then it shouldnt be harder than that in A&P I would think. You mostly need to know the Krebs cycle, glycolysis, etc...

My school does not require BIO and I agree. A&P is not that bad if you make study guides and stay on top of the material. I had not been in school for 10 years and went straight into A&P I and made an A-. It takes some work to understand all the concepts and memorize everything but, it is doable.

My school goes straight to A&P (but you need HS bio), and doesn't do chem at all.

My school required two general/intro bio classes before we were allowed to take A&P. It does help but I don't think not having a bio class will leave you at a disadvantage. Heck I took two and I didn't remember crap from them LOL
