Possession charges

Published

Ok. So I self reported to the bon regarding a possesion of a controlled substance a misdemeanor and a felony charge. They sent me back a letter saying I need to send in paperwork of the outcome at court otherwise they close the case after 90 days and may reopen it after I go to court.

I have been arrested for possession charges one I was convicted of this month it was possession of a dangerous drug a class A misdemeanor. I had another charge possession of a prohibited substance in a correctional facility a felony that charge was dismissed completely but apparently still appears on my background check. I had another interview on Monday they said they were going to hire me and told me to be at orientation this Wednesday but called me and told me they'd decided not to pursue my application... When I asked them why she got rude and replied because we just decided not to pursue it. I am devastated. I was so excited to have a job again it's been about 7 months now since I've had a job. I feel like giving up. I know I am so much better than the mistake I made! I am a good nurse with no drug habit. I'm not addicted to anything heck I don't even like to drink because it makes me feel weird. I am not this horrible person that deserves unemployment because of one horrible mistake. Any words of encouragement?

My lawyers have said it can take up to a year to go to court. I was going to enroll into tpapn but I have been unemployed ever since I got the charges. I walked away from my job at the time because I was scared they would think I was an addict or unfit to work. My question is is it ok to work now until I go to court or is it going to be impossible with these pending charges?

If your license isn't suspended yet, you can try to find a job.

Yeah if they haven't suspended or restricted your license you can still work

I went to court today and I'm going to be charged with a misdemeanor possession of a controlled substance in the state of texas. They are giving me one year of probation and a $600 fine along with court costs. Has anyone ever been through this with the Texas BON? Do you know what type of punishment I am looking at for this?? I'm scared to death at this point. This is the first time I have ever been in trouble for anything.

They took deferred off the table even though this is my first offense.

My guess is that you are looking at getting sucked into a monitoring program. Sorry

I have applied at many places got an interview they told me I could start orientation and called me back and said they decided not to pursue my application... When I asked why they got very rude and said because we decided not to pursue it that's all. I'm feeling very discouraged. Maybe I should just give up

I wouldn't!!! You have a lot invested in your nursing career. The hardest part of these programs is right at the beginning. Have you even been contacted by the BON yet? Do you know what you are facing?

The bon sent me a letter telling me to send them finalized court documents showing the outcome. I was placed on probation for a year and ordered to pay a $600 fine. But I don't have any diciplinary action on my nursing license as of right now... I also explained this on the application and she looked at it before she said I could start orientation but did not bring it up in the face to face interview so I didn't either... But then I got that dreaded call and I cried... I was so excited I finally felt like it was going to be ok again and my life could get back to normal just to be slapped in the face again with that phone call.

Try dialysis clinics.. i know of people who had possession charges and are under contract who have been hired. They tend to be desperate for nurses, so just sell yourself at the interview. Tell them how much you have learned from your mistakes and how you have become a better person and nurse from this whole experience.

I have applied but they are only hiring RNs. I'm an LVN.

I'm afraid you may need to seek employment in another field while you wait. It's because its so recent. Once you get into a monitoring contract, it may grease the wheels a little. But to an employer, you're just looking like a person with a recent charge for drugs, without an advocacy contract. Recent charges appear as if this is who you are right now. And some employers never forgive that... But some do, after some time has passed and you can prove what you have done to leave this part of your past behind.
