Positive thread! Your best family/working environment

Specialties Private Duty

Ok, we so often come here to vent or discuss solutions to common issues in the home. I was thinking that maybe we could discuss the best family we worked for, or maybe the best working environment you've had in home care. Maybe it includes things that work well in PDN vs our typical posts about what isn't working.

I'll come back to post mine soon.

Of course! :-) I think we would all love to work in your home!

I agree!

My favorite case is a night shift. The boy is so pleasant and fun to be with when he awakens. Mom trusts me and doesn't micro-manage. I feel like a watchdog. That admittedly sounds strange, but I find it very satisfying.

My fave case is with a college student I only work with now when she's home from college on breaks. She's in a w/c w SMA but completely alert, oriented, and frankly, a smart-alec sometimes! I know her care so well she doesn't have to ask for anything, I do what she needs as we gab on about her college adventures, my children, the latest gossip, funny stories, etc. we have private jokes, tease each other, and the whole family makes me feel at home and appreciated.

As a teen, she put out her own EP of songs she wrote, and just this past weekend her music got some airplay on Sirius XM! Her mom called me to let me know and make sure I was listening! A few years ago, she distributed her CD to every child in my daughter's class when she visited to talk about people w disabilities and how to understand them and be accommodating for them. She always gets out there to be an inspiration to others, and does a lot to raise money and awareness for MDA.

I have other favorite clients, but she's the one that sticks out the brightest!

Specializes in NICU, ICU, PICU, Academia.

I got to my PDN case tonight after last night's PICU fiasco (I have two jobs) to find my kiddo's mom has set up a 'cold weather beverage station'! A lovely tray with coffee, teas, sweeteners, and mugs next to the coffee pot (the family does not drink coffee) that she set up just for the nurses! It's kind of cold in the house at night (it was 2 degrees outdoors) and she allows us to wear street clothes to stay warmer if we like.

That's awesome. The little stuff makes all the difference!

That's so sweet! I love it!

I've been with this patient and his family for about a month now and it's the best environment I've come across thus far. The home is so comfortable, premium television (I work overnight so lots of TV time), access to the Keurig... they provide the nurses with K-cups and a snack cabinet (which we all contribute to refilling). They are endlessly thankful. They even bought me an expensive bottle of wine and Godiva chocolates for Christmas. Best of all it's only an 8 minute drive from my house :)
