For those of us who have already taken boards, please answer a few questions that might help ease the minds of those who are still waiting to test or for results. I know reading as much as possible about other people's experience helped me feel a little bit better while I waited.
1. How many questions did you take on NCLEX?
2. What study materials did you use? Did you take a test review course?
3. Did your SON offer any testing (ERI, ATI, HESI)?
4. How long did you wait for results of the test, or are you still waiting?
5. What were your thoughts coming out of the test (total disbelief, certainty you had failed, confident you had passed)?
6. Was this your first attempt at NCLEX?
Good luck to those who are waiting and ++++ thoughts for those who are waiting on results!!
1. questions... 265/76/86
2. study materials: Anything I could get my hands on! I love the nclex rn notes..great content review. I have several books and I just continuously used the cds et took tests over et over again...reading all of the rationales.
3. SON: Mandated us to do the Kaplan review. We also did ATI.
4. I waited 48 hrs for test 1 et 2. I found out in 24 hours on test 3.
5. My 1st attempt was not pretty. I had only 2.5 hrs sleep before I took it and really should have cxld et rescheduled. Test 2 I was so anxious I truly think I over analyzed everything!!! Test 3...(June 21st) I just kept saying I feel really good about this..I knew I had the last question right and it just felt good...however..I kept saying over et over again..." I don't know...I just don't know!!"
6. Not first attempt but 3rd time was Definitely a charm for me...I ended up seeing a hypnotherapist to conquer my test anxiety and woohoo....I am an RN!!!!
1. How many questions did you take on NCLEX? 75
2. What study materials did you use? Did you take a test review course?
Kaplan's study guide, Mosby's, ATI DVDs and study books, NCLEX Made Incredibly Easy series, Skyscape NCLEX questions for my Palm so I could study on the go.
3. Did your SON offer any testing (ERI, ATI, HESI)? Yes, ATI, scored 95% likely to pass-HA! We'll see.
4. How long did you wait for results of the test, or are you still waiting?
Still waiting... another 18 hours to go until I know.
5. What were your thoughts coming out of the test (total disbelief, certainty you had failed, confident you had passed)? Frustrated, depressed, and absolutely confident I have failed. How the heck does it know how competent and safe I am based on 75 questions? How can it measure how safe I am based on questions about obscure medications that I didn't come across in how many thousands of questions of study and years of nursing school? When I started getting what were easy questions--I was certain I knew the answer ( I wish I could give examples so you guys could see how easy)--I knew I was in deep trouble if the computer shut off at 75.
6. Was this your first attempt at NCLEX? Yep... and please God, let it be the last. I am usually a good test taker and that test was evil.
1. 75 Questions
2. NCLEX3500 CD, ATI (took assessment tests and read some of the books, but didn't use the virtual instructor)
3. We took the NLN comprehensive predictor (I was in 99 percentile)
4. I tested on Friday for California and found my license online Tuesday (the most AGONIZING weekend of my life!)
5. I was SO freaked out. I really thought I might have failed. I thought the test was ten times harder than what I was prepared for. I'm still kind of stunned to see my name with RN. Even though I know I'm competent to start my career, that exam was BRUTAL!
6. First try...and last thank God!
Congratulations new nurses!!! We did it!!! For everyone waiting...it will be over soon!!!
1. How many questions did you take on NCLEX? 230
2. What study materials did you use? Did you take a test review course? Anderson Review Course, ERI, Kaplan CD
3. Did your SON offer any testing (ERI, ATI, HESI)? ERI every semester
4. How long did you wait for results of the test, or are you still waiting? 2 days
5. What were your thoughts coming out of the test (total disbelief, certainty you had failed, confident you had passed)? I knew I failed, but everyone kept reassuring me that they felt the same way (the passed)
6. Was this your first attempt at NCLEX? yes...and I failed
1. I was prepared for the long haul but got cut off at 75 questions.
2. I used ATI Testing, and Mosby books and CDs to review questions.
3. At my SON we had to pass the ATI tests with 60% each semester in order to go on to the next semester.
4. I took the test 06/26/07 in CA, and much to my dismay I am still waiting for results. CA offers no quick results I feel like getting a picket sign and protesting that but it is way to hot outside:) This wait is the pits!
5. I felt totally disappointed because I know alot(did well in school and studied like a maniac) but I kept getting asked about meds that I had never heard of nor encountered in clinicals and by stopping at 75 I felt that I did not have a chance to prove myself I am scared that I failed.
6. This was my first attempt and I am praying that it will be my last.
I've been dreaming about becoming a part of this Thread Of Honor for months! :)
1. How many questions did you take on NCLEX?
75, and I passed
2. What study materials did you use? Did you take a test review course?
Book - Saunders Comprehensive 3Ed. I read it maybe 10 times cover to cover during the 5 months of preparation, I feel like I knew it by heart. I also did maybe 10 000+ test questions, from this book, also Kaplan QTrainer, Kaplan Strategies 2008, Springhouse Review3000, Springhouse Made Easy, Delmar Question CD, and a couple of others. I didn't take any review courses.
3. Did your SON offer any testing (ERI, ATI, HESI)?
No.
4. How long did you wait for results of the test, or are you still waiting?
Less than 48 hours. Finished the test on Saturday at about 9.30, found out results just a few minutes ago after waking up, it's 7.45 am Monday.
5. What were your thoughts coming out of the test (total disbelief, certainty you had failed, confident you had passed)?
I felt happy, relieved, I felt I did it. I knew if I get 75, I most likely would pass. I was pretty confident, but after a few hours I started remembering questions that I probably got wrong, and started doubting, what if those hard ones I answered correct were all those 15 fake ones, and I got wrong on all the real ones? The next day I had my confidence severely shaken and really worrying.
6. Was this your first attempt at NCLEX?
Yes, and the thought of never doing it again makes me feel... I need some time to digest it... :)
1. How many questions did you take on NCLEX?
75 and just found out I passed!
2. What study materials did you use? Did you take a test review course?
No study review course. I answered some questions from the Lippincott and Saunders books, but I did not finish either book.
3. Did your SON offer any testing (ERI, ATI, HESI)?
We were forced to do ATI after every class. I did well on all of them. After the last course we were made to take ATI's RN Comprehensive Predictor test. According to that I had a 99% chance of passing, but that didn't mean anything to me going in!
4. How long did you wait for results of the test, or are you still waiting?
I tested July 21 at 9am. Found out 10:30 am today through Quick Results.
5. What were your thoughts coming out of the test (total disbelief, certainty you had failed, confident you hadpassed)?
I felt pretty cruddy leaving. Out of those 75 questions I was only sure about 5-6 of them.
6. Was this your first attempt at NCLEX?
First and only, thank God for that!
Good luck to everyone awaiting testing and results! It feels so wonderful to have passed - it makes all of the nervousness worthwhile.

Many people I know decided not to study and I respect that. However, I know, for a fact, that if I hadn't reviewed my pharmocology (esp. common side effects) I would have failed. No doubt in my mind.
