I am completely lost and don’t know what to do! A little bit about me...

  • First of all, I don’t like bedside at all (not for me for sure in any capacity!)
  • I live in Ontario, Canada (which unfortunately doesn’t make things easier as the requirements are stricter than in US)
  • I have 2-3 years nursing experience in different units but not the greatest experiences, mostly in orthopaedic and clinic only.

Do you think I would be able to land a job if I continue lets say get my Master's, or I just keep applying for jobs that are non-bedside? I have not been successful though applying for jobs that require +4 years experience and are office-based (no interviews yet)! what is best route for me if you were in my shoes?

I would recommend applying for Tele-health nursing. Personally I moved away from bedside at 8 months into my nursing career into home health in management. So it is possible. 2-3 years is more then enough experience to do Telephone Triage jobs. You can stay home while still keeping your skills if that's something you want to do. I see a lot of nurses getting into medical writing which takes some hard work in the beginning but pays off in the end. You can also look into case management jobs. Or you can get a job in health insurance as a Utilization reviewer. There are many options that are well worth the time in research! The sky is only the threshold of what is possible ?. I would love to hear updates on what you find.

If you’re on facebook, there are remote nursing forms where you might get good advice. ❤️

Specializes in Oncology, ID, Hepatology, Occy Health.

Research Nurse?

School Nurse?

Occupational Health?

Yes, get your masters. It will widen your horizons. Good luck.

Insurance or telehealth nursing might be a good fit

You can keep trying if you don't like something!

I'm a telehealth clinic nurse in the GTA. I prefer office or administrative than working bedside, pay is not as much as hospital but it's something that suited my needs. There's a lot of nursing specialties out there. What are you interested in doing? Even if it's non-nursing.

@viera101If I may I ask, how did you find the job? because the more I try to find telehealth positions the less I find. I mean did you find it through website likes indeed or did you know someone who referred you? I would appreciate it if you let me know ?

Yes it was through indeed. I also specialize in cannabinoid therapy education so having a niche specialty helped me secure a position in the medical cannabis field. I hope this helps.

Thank you so much for your response?

Look at Blood Center Collections Nurse. Donors are healthy and want you to stick them in the arm. Job is friendly, you talk to people who want to be there. Really great job!  Great training and opportunities to gain leadership experience. I moved to a blood center 15 years ago and have never been happier!

Specializes in Surgical/Trauma/Neuroscience/Cardiac ICU.

You can continue your Masters while still working. It is competitive for sure to be in the GTA (since most people are attracted to) but relocating could be an option.
