please guide me

I started this job at the hospital and was hired as RN II. right now we are having our orientation and one of the other girl who is hired with us was asking all of us about our designation. When i told her that I was hired as an RN II she got really mad because she is hired as RN I. Yesterday she told our nursing educator ( who is conducting the fellowship program) now this educator says that she will talk to HR about this I showed her my job description package HR gave me and she said that she will talk for this other girl about her designation. I must mention here that i have more than 2 and a half experience in urgent care and this other girl has less than 2 year experience in some rehab hospital.

My question, now what will happen now. I will be thankful for your suggestions.

Another question I want to ask is that does urgent care considered as critical care or not.

What exactly are you asking for help on? What do you mean, what do you do now?

Sounds like you're an RN II because you have more experience and specialty experience. Perhaps 2 years is their cutoff between an RN I and an RNII. I don't know - it seems the nurse educator should easily be able to answer that question.

Best advice is not to share stuff like this if at all possible with co-workers. You don't need to give out your employment hx to anybody but your boss.

Lesson #1. Do not ever discuss salary, hiring or promotion details with co-workers.

Lesson #2. Avoid the trouble-maker who was asking everyone their hiring status.

No doubt, your relevant experience caused you to be hired in at a higher level than most. But HR will not likely be happy with your open discussion.

I find it interesting that they hired you in as an RN II. At my hospital, climbing the clinical ladder isn't based on how long you've been a nurse. It is based on how long you have been at the hospital, having your BSN, having specialty certification (like your CCRN etc), and other requirements.

I've never heard of anyone considering urgent care as critical care experience. It is certainly much different fields of work.

Thanks to all of you for your reply. I agree this was a huge mistake on my part now i am concerned that HR will be very mad at me. the nurse educator told me that when she will ask HR she will not mention my name ( but i am not sure she will do that). I am feeling so bad that i believed this girl and told her everything.

Well, what's done is done. The important thing is that you will know in the future not to enter into these discussions.

At our hospital designations like that are on nametags, so it's not exactly a secret. I can't imagine you getting demoted, or for that matter her getting promoted. Good luck!

Specializes in Home health was tops, 2nd was L&D.

Most Hospitals do have designation on your name tag..and I agree what is done is done. Do not fall for that tell me your story line anymore..if someone figures it out so be it. Nurse educator has no business getting involved..other nurse should take it up with HR if she wants. Urgent care is not critical care but it is a great background, and every hospital I have ever known hires nurse base on past exp then promotes based on the current hospitals rules.
