Platt college?

Anyone out there who attends or is about to attend platt college??

So, is there any news on this (Platt College experience)? The last post seems to have been quite a while ago! Has anyone gone through the entire program? How much tuition was it out of pocket? I am currently looking at many of the Nursing Programs in the Denver area, and this appeals to me because the general ed is built into the BSN program AND they have several start dates each year... As opposed to a lot of other programs that only begin in the fall each year... I am 35 and am just looking for the most efficient way possible to get my ADN or BSN, but want a reputable degree. Any first hand info would be much appreciated! :) Thank you!

If your 'whole reason for going into nursing is to become an NP' you might consider becoming a physician or PA instead; it would save you from a possibly unpleasant few years while you gather experience in a profession you don't want while waiting to enter the one you do.

Except that some people actually want to go into NURSING, rather than MEDICINE.

So- if I understand correctly, all BSNs are not "equal." Where you get it matters...correct? I JUST want to be an RN. I don't even necessarily care to have my BSN... I just want to be an RN and practice Nursing. I have not ambitions of being an NP or a PA... I just want to be a nurse. I have even been looking at going the community college route to get my ADN and then sit for the RN test... But that seems VERY time consuming, as it only starts once a year AND it also seems like it is nearly impossible to get into a program! I am 35 and a single mom... I work in health care already, just not as a nurse- obviously! I have worked in health care off and on for over 10 years of my life... so I know nursing is what I want to go into, and I know I want to be an RN. Is there a big difference between having my BSN from somewhere like Platt and having an ADN from a community college? Any advice on which is better? All BSNs will allow you to qualify to sit for the NCLEX.

Not all BSNs will allow you to matriculate to any graduate school.

If you "just" want to be an RN, it would seem to me like a faster, more cost effective approach would be to go to a community college and get your ADN. $6K vs. $60K. Seems like a no-brainer to me.

Yes- I had heard that it was QUITE costly. I think all in all the ADN programs I am looking at are around $12k, but still much less than $60k! Thank you so much for your help. It is really nice to have a place to "bounce" things around a bit! :)

yes there are. almost all the people who have graduated from the 4 graduating classes are all working. There are a few (3) that still need to take NCLEX due to thier own circumstances but all the rest are working. Several at Denver health, A few at Craig and a couple in long term care. One is working in Dallas at a major hosp. there.

Platt is accredited by the colorado nursing board and the NCLEX allows you to work pretty much anywhere. When was the last time you asked a nurse where they graduated from?

Southeastern Medical University in south Carolina

University of Pheonix

Grand Canyon university

You might want to check your info.. Just because Platt wasn't right for you doesn't mean its a bad school.

I work with 2 people that went to this school and are RNs on a Cardiac floor. They are both really great nurses and one of them I sat down with and talked about this school and she encouraged me to go and check it out. I am now going to take the test and see if I can get in. I'm hoping that they will accept me. I think this school seems as good as any other. I also work with RNs from other schools and to tell you the truth they all seem as new and the same as a new nurse can be. So, I guess go where you feel it fits the best. Congrats to you plattstudent I'm sure you will find a job fast and have great success! :)

I respectfully disagree with "plattsucks" post. I am a current student and have had a great experience at this school. From respectful faculty, to high academic standards and an iron-clad policy of not discussing the academic affairs of other students, my experience has been the diametric opposite of this contributer.

Platt's first class of BSN graduates (class of May 2008) began taking the NCLEX-RN last week. I've heard one result so far, which was a pass.

I'm proud to represent my school and I strongly encourage anyone interested in a BSN to attend an information session and decide for yourself if Platt is for you. I'd be happy to discuss my experience at Platt with anyone interested in attending.

I would love to hear about your experience. I have been to the Information Session, and have read some of the things said here in the forum, so I am a little hesitant about this school, so any positive feedback would be great. I may go to another Info session, ( the one I attended was in 2008), but I am not sure about this school because of the cost, and the accreditation. Have you graduated? If so, how did you do on the NCLEX? I do agree that everyone at the school was very nice, all my questions were answered. I decided after visiting that I wanted to take some of my pre-requisites first and look at Platt again later. Another lady I met said she was going to Platt and she really liked it a lot. I read on Platt's website that certain colleges DO accept their credits for those wanting MSN and beyond. I haven't decided how far I want to go in my education, but I would like to have the option of getting a higher degree eventually. It was also stated on the website that Platt graduates were excluded from hire at certain facilities (Department of Defense, VA hospital). I would hate to go through all of nursing school and not be able to get a good job. Sorry if I am rambling. Did you have any pre-reqs done when you started? My plan is to get as many as I can before I apply, so that my workload will be more about the nursing courses. I think I would have a very hard time if I had to juggle all of it at once. So since they are now accredited through the NLNAC does that mean their credits are transferrable to another college if you were to go for something else like a Masters Program? I am so worried, my daughter is at UNC but does not want to continue going to school there because of all of the partying around the entire campus. She just wants to get her nursing degree completed and start pursuing her career as a nurse but after reading some of these posts I am super worried. I do not care about the "steep tuition" if her credits transfer down the road (if she decides to go on for her Masters) and I also want her to be able to work at any hospital that is hiring.

Is there anyone that has graduated from this program, that works at a magnet hospital? I am a nurse and working at a magnet hospital is no big deal for me, I enjoy working at PSL but I know she wants to work in the NICU and I know University and Childrens have been named on this site as not hiring graduates from Platt.

HELP any other advice on this topic is greatly appreciated!!!:confused:
