Pitt Country Hospital in Greenville, NC (Vidant Medical Center) unit reviews

U.S.A. North Carolina

I am trying to decided between a few units at Pitt County Memorial Hospital. I have shadowed on both the MICU and SICU and I have NO idea how to choose!!! Does anyone from PCMH have any experience on or with these units that they can share?

Hi WildCatFanRN...did you get offered all of the positions or was SIU your first choice? I am so nervous about doing so many interviews in one day.......did they ask any questions that caught you off guard?

I was only offered the position in SIU. I wasn't really asked anything that caught me off guard. I ended up asking questions that caught a few off guard though. If you go in prepared and showing you really want to learn and be part of a growing hospital/team you should do fine. I had a list of questions I specifically wanted answered due to a previous experience of mine, I wanted to know how they would have handled it.

Hi WildCatFanRN.....just had my interview with SIU. It went well except I was interviewed by 2 people while the nurse manager was taking phone calls! First time that ever happend during an interview haha. It went well and it seems like a great unit to work on. I am crossing my fingers!!

Yeah, I was interviewed mainly by the peer group too. The manager got called to a meeting. I did at least get to meet her briefly though. I must have made a good impression. I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for you as well.

Thanks!!!! I still have not heard from them and I am getting a little worried :(!!!! The nurse manager on SIU said I seemed very enthusiastic and that is what she looks for in a nurse soooooo idk I hope she wasn't letting me down easy haha. How long did it take before you heard back from HR??

Lets see, I left to go back home that Friday. I received a call by Tuesday with an offer. So, two days not counting the weekend I think.

Hey! I just read your posts and was wondering how you all are enjoying your new positions?! I live a little over an hour south of greenville but would like to work in a better ICU, so I'm considering applying. It'd be a bit of a commute, but I'd like to work part time and if it's a great hospital and a good experience it'd be well worth it.

Please let me know what you think of it!!

Thanks!!

I start Monday so probably won't actually get to the floor for at least the first week. I'll try to let you know how it's going :)

Quick Question: By PCMH wanting to achieve Magnet status, does that mean that they are going to be looking to hire only BSN nurses come 2011? Not that it's a big deal but I REALLY want to work in this hospital over Craven Regional and as a post-baccalaureate student I'm having to go the ADN-BSN-MSN route and was hoping to get a position after getting my ADN.

One point though, as a native of eastern North Carolina I would caution newcomers to the region about living in Washington (someone commented that it was safe and nice)...Washington has an EXTREMELY high crime rate and lots of gang activity compared to the rest of the region. IMHO Greenville is safer in certain areas than the majority of Washington.
