Pinning ceremony

Published

Hi guys

Just wanted to know if everyone is having a pinning ceremony. For some reason our school does not do it anymore due to students not showing up for the graduation ceremony. If we chose to have one, we have to do it amongst ourselves with no instructors or faculty there. We were told they were not to have anything to do with this. Considering what we all went through to graduate, you would think this is something they would have. Although it is too late for our class to change this, I've told the up coming class that they need to petition the school about this. From what I hear, it's a "sacred" event. Anyone ever attend one? What does it entail?

Thanks

I understand that the school I'm going to now, to bridge, does not have a pinning cere. either. I do understand that the last few classes planned their own, and then invited the faculty to attend and ask some of them to speak.

None here either. :(

But my program has 4 different campuses. I think back when they did have a pinning, as you said, many did not go to graduation. Heck, I've worked my butt off, I'm walking across that stage!!!!!!!!!!

We have a dedication/pinning ceremony at the end of the first year of school. It's formal, all the faculty is there, and family comes. Some people got very emotional during it...I probably would have if any of my family had attended. As it was, it was just sort of a milestone...one year to go.

Our school used to have a pinning ceremnony, then they decided to add it to graduation, we get pinned as we walk across the stage...it used to be that the classes planned their own ceremony, and a few years back one class went overboard, planned this 30,000 dollar blow out at a country club, and had to fund raise so much, that the faculty saw a noticable drop in thier grades the last year of school, so the faculty took the pinning ceremony planning away from the students

We did pinning and graduation at the same time.... but we did have a "capping ceremony"!

Our school has a pinning ceremony planned by the students, with input and participation of the faculty, in the month preceding graduation. Our nursing instructors discussed this wonderful "tradition" on the 2nd day of our 1st semester nursing classes. :)

our pinning ceremony is held on the day of the last semester final. only the graduating sophomores and instructors are present. the freshmen sna studens give a "sophomore tea" following the ceremony . others are allowed to help if they wish. we are asked (as freshmn) to give a small donation (about $2 or $3 each) to pay for the reception/tea. the instructor who is over sna oversees the planning for each class and has said, "if you don't give a good/decent reception/tea, i will see to it that yours is not good/decent." basically meaning, you get what you give. we will probably start planning the first of february, because i know for a fact that the sophomore (graduating) class gave a great tea last year. btw, just because this is called a "tea" doesn't mean it's all formal like a sit down tea, last year, it was like a luau (sp?)

happy studying all,

Our school has a pinning ceremony, and from what I hear it is supposed to be quite beautiful and emotional. It is held at a really nice historic church. (for sitting space reasons, not religious) I have never attended one so I'm only going on what instructors and other students that have been to one have said. I can't wait!

I went to a three year diploma school and this is what we did back in the dark ages. We received our caps the second semester of our freshman year (we all had to pass the first semester of "nursing arts" first). We had a very formal ceremony in the basement auditorium of our dorm - we each carried a candlelit Florence Nightengale lamp as we paraded down the middle aisle of the darkened room to the front where we were given our caps (someone literally pinned the caps to our heads). It was a big deal, friends and family attended and we were all given presents.

For our junior and senior years we had a less formal "black banding" ceremony where we were given a narrow black band our jr year and a thick black band our sr year.

Our pinning ceremony was our graduation ceremony. Our graduation was held in a Methodist church. As our names were called, we walked up to the stage in our white uniforms, hose and shoes and were presented our diplomas while the director of our program pinned our new pins on our uniform collars.

BTW our school bought us our solid gold pins and engraved them with our initials.

Great memories.

We have a pinning ceremony (May 13th) and graduation (May 19). The pinning ceremony is supposed to be very emotional. I'm looking forward to it, but dread the amount of work that I have to do between now & then! :)

I don't know how my school does it, but I really hope we have a pinning ceremony. I'm a sucker for tradition. :)
