Hi - quick question about guys and pinning ceremonies. Don't mean to offend anyone, but pinning ceremonies (pins, Nightingale lamps, etc.) don't seem very oriented towards the male gender. Do male grads feel goofy at these ceremonies? How silly will I look? My wife is already busting my chops about carrying a lamp, etc...
I'm being pinned on Friday. Not for graduating, but for "entering into the clinical setting".
so what happens to the people who flunk out ? Do they still go around wearing their pin, pretending they graduated from your school or do the instructors hunt them down and make them give the pin back?
My ceremony was as girlie as they come. White graduation gowns, red roses, the candle, they even played the hokey "I believe I can fly". I wanted to puke. I was the only male in my 32 student class. When I asked to not go to this and just recieve my diploma the instructors threw a hissy fit. I gave up and did it any way but feel it is NOT RIGHT!!! I know this is a female dominated profession but lets get freaking real. I have been a nurse for 3 yrs now and love it but that stupid event still makes me sick when I think about it.

thank you Tom for your honesty. I think the entire pinning ceremony gets put into perspective by flipping it. I am curious to see what a "male-dominated" pinning ceremony would look like. Let's write one!
One year they can do the white gown/roses/"believe I can fly" thing.
The next year everyone must wear ________,
receive a ____________
and listen to our theme song, _________________.
Fill in the blanks for me!
Ya, like this would have any chance, but it is unreal how many female nurses just think we are nuts for thinking there is a problem with the pinning thing.

The next year everyone must wear Camo,
receive a _pen light_
and listen to our theme song, _we will rock you_.
Fill in the blanks for me!
1. Wear Scrubs
2. Receive a diploma
3. Play "Dream On" by Aerosmith "SING WITH ME,
SING FOR THE YEARS,
SING FOR THE LAUGHER N' SING FOR THE TEARS.
SING WITH ME
IF IT'S JUST FOR TODAY,
MAYBE TOMORROW THE GOOD LORD WILL TAKE YOU AWAY.
DREAM ON, DREAM ON, DREAM ON,
DREAM YOURSELF A DREAM COME TRUE.
DREAM ON, DREAM ON, DREAM ON,
AND DREAM UNTIL YOUR DREAM COMES TRUE.
DREAM ON, DREAM ON, DREAM ON, DREAM ON,
DREAM ON, DREAM ON, DREAM ON, AH. AH."
Now that song kicks some butt compared to Celine Dione.

The next year everyone must wear anything comfortable,
receive a gift card to a hardware store
and listen to our theme song, "Big Balls" by AC/DC.
I am just starting Rn school in Jan. When I took my CNA pre-req we had to go to CNA graduation. The 4 cna classes had to show up; about 100 people. We had to wear scrubs and get our pin on stage. I was told the graduation ceremony was required hours for our certification and I must show (I should have checked with the state first)! The lame things...we had to show up at 8am and "graduation" wasn't until 11:00. It's not as if you need practice walking across a stage.
Each class had a valavictorian who had to read a poem at the podium. They were about aging and maturing throughout womanhood.

I've been locked in a room with 29 women for almost two years now. I'm practically one of the girls now so I guess I'll do the pinning ceremony. I'm just glad I won.t have to wear the cap. Looking forward to May
