Pima CC 2020

Published

Hello! I’ve been checking this site for a while hoping someone would start a thread.. and thought why don’t I?

Is anyone else applying to Pima CC nursing program with 2/1 deadline? I’m also applying to ASU CEP program! Just waiting for my degree to post and I’ll be all set to apply! ?

I'll be working full time for at least the first semester. That's the plan anyway. I have five kids, so going down to part time really isn't an option for me.

Hopefully only 16ish more days!

Glad I’m not the only one counting down! Lmao

Lol I guess we're all crossing each day off the calendar ? I might message Amanda next Monday to see if they know how many have applied this cycle. I forgot, is this cohort also 90 or was it 110?

Please share whatever she says! Also I think they’re like 80-90? I think that they are usually 100 total but hold seats for their LPN-RN bridge applicants. I think they also reserve some seats specifically for CEP applicants too? I could be mistaken though.

I went to the last information session in January! They said 95 to 100 and other seats are reserved for the cep. The waiting list is pretty much gone !??

I remember back when I was first wanting to do nursing and the waitlist was like 3 years! I didn’t want to wait so I explored other options. Jokes on me though because nursing turned out to be the best option for me anyway and here I am... way more than 3 years later lol

I like that it’s competitive now but also have some mixed feelings on it. I have friends who have applied to the last 2-3 cycles and can’t get in but their scores are so close to cut off.. which seems to just keep going up. Also out of state applicants make it more competitive, nothing wrong with that of course @Lunara!!, but it does make a bigger pool. I also think that though that Pima is probably producing quality grads since it is so competitive!

(also yay! One more day down)

Hey it happens! You gotta explore to know what you want! & it’s honestly different every round so don’t worry too much! It depends on how many people apply & the scores. Some rounds are more competitive than others it just depends! Also if your friends are missing anything or didn’t put everything correct on their application they can lose points without knowing. Yeah it does suck how competitive it is.. yes one more day and thee more weeks!

Haha no worries! Out of state students definitely would make it harder. Pima's program is so appealing compared to what's available in WA (especially with no lottery system, thank goodness) it's hard to pass up. Hopefully there aren't too many out of state applying. The people I've told about the program didnt not it existed and assumed I ment PMI! Seems to still be an Arizona secret.

Like nroyce said, maybe your friends lost some points unknowingly? If they're applying this cycle hopefully their luck comes around and you'll all be together! Also better late than never for you to start nursing! We're in this together ?

Speaking of competitive, I do really like how Pima does their acceptances. That's why I chose to apply there instead of through Maricopa since they still have their waitlist unless you get into their CEP.

I'll definitely let you guys know what I hear back!

@nroyce Thanks for that info! Im glad the remaining waitlisters have been put through. Did you hear how many spots are CEP specific too?

Lottery system?? How does that all work out? I’m glad Pima is competitive then ?

Also, I didn’t know that Maricopa still did the waitlist? I saw they have a point system and assumed it was just like Pima’s, but I just double checked and that’s only for the CEP’s!

I think the program is competitive enough that applicants really should aim for A’s since the GPA portion is worth so much. Some of my friends that didn’t get in got B’s in one or both of their Bio classes and that’s 10-20 points lost right there. It’s nice though to have options like volunteering and work experience to beef up your application!

I keep seeing people talk about the GPA making a difference, but nowhere in the defined point system does it mention GPA. My GPA is only a 3.51 so that makes me a bit nervous.
