Pima CC 2020

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Hello! I’ve been checking this site for a while hoping someone would start a thread.. and thought why don’t I?

Is anyone else applying to Pima CC nursing program with 2/1 deadline? I’m also applying to ASU CEP program! Just waiting for my degree to post and I’ll be all set to apply! ?

Oh I also have a question...

How does everyone plan on paying for the program? I have applied for financial aid/loans but if I get into the CEP, I’m not sure I will be given enough in loans to cover the cost. Does anyone know about this? Financial aid was not very helpful. Thanks.

Where do you work? Are you able to get any financial assistance from your employer?

Additionally, I would definitely apply for scholarships! I know ASU has some (I’m enrolled currently with them) and also on mypima you can fill out some info for scholarships too, it’s on the finance page!

Hello everyone, I’m new to this thread. Thanks for making it! I applied to the Pima ASU CEP program as well as the Pima ADN. My self calculated score is an 84. I’ve retaken the hesi three times to try and improve and have gotten A’s in both BIO’s. I’m starting to get super nervous about the applications because when I went to turn mine in, some woman in the nursing office said that they take other factors into consideration. Which I guess would mean GPA? I had to work super hard to get mine up to a 3.1 getting straight A’s the last two semesters. I would think it very unfair to take things like that into consideration when all they say is the point system... thanks

I don’t think it’s cumulative GPA either, I think the only thing involving grades is the bio, math, and writing classes. The only other “criteria” type of thing that I heard is that if there are 2 applicants that have the exact scores and everything and only one can get in that they look at when you applied and give it to whoever applied first. I heard that from a friend though, not an advisor, so I’m not 100% sure.

Good luck though! And welcome to the chat! I think we’re all a little anxious haha

Yeah thanks. I’ve applied for many scholarships I was thinking more loans because the tuition will be over 30k

Hey all! Just got word back from Amamda. So the only thing she mentioned about the GPA in regard to the application is for CEP applicants since the universities require a minimum GPA for consideration, 3.0 for ASU and NAU I believe. As Sbrown22 mentioned, GPA should only be considered using the required classes and nothing else according to the CEP brochures for the universities ? Theres 20 seats for CEP each cycle, but she doesn't know how many applied since she is not part of the reviewing committee. I asked who would be best to contact about it so we'll see.

Thanks that’s so helpful!! Hopefully not too much longer before we all hear back!

Im hoping to get some federal loans but since I already have a bachelors I'm not sure how much I'll be getting now that I'm considered an independent! I'll be relying on my boyfriend who I'll be moving in with when I move from Washington to cover my daily expenses while with whatever I make from a part time will go to school. Once we figure out if I'm accepted or not I'll look into scholarships and try to make a plan with a financial advisor. A repayment plan through Pima will hopefully work, but I'll also probably be getting private loans if I have to...

Thanks a lot for your reply. This sounds a lot like what I’m going to do. I have a previous associate degree so hopefully I’ll still get enough for loans. When I spoke to the financial aid advisor they told me you can request more in loans then they offer you but they will be unsubsidized meaning you’ll acquire interest while in school. I got “pre approved” if you will for 4K in grants and 9k in subsidized loans. Which would only cover the cost of the Pima ADN program. This was before I amended my financial aid application to include ASU though.

I just looked at my notes from the info session I went to on 01/30/20 and it says that 90 are offered placement into the ADN program and 20 are offered CEP admission for a total of 110 seats. The feb 1st deadline is for LPN, CEP and ADN. June 1st deadline is for CEP only. Sep 1st is ADN and LPN only. I forgot to write down how many LPN’s are accepted but I think that they are just pooled in with regular applicants. They still have to get enough points and their only perk is starting in the second semester of the ADN program. It’s not any easier to be accepted for them. So I wouldn’t worry about the LPNs

Also the range of scores accepted I got from Amanda for the last applications for the ADN program are 76, 80, 78, and 68 starting with the most recent application cycle

Yeah, I did that with my bachelors but depending on whether you are a dependent or indepent undergrad applicant you have a max cap for total subsidized/unsubsidized loans. For independent its 57,500 and dependent is 31,000 with both only allowing 23K to be subsidized. I think for me I have 20K unsubsidized left? But as an out of state that only covers the ADN as well. Since I havent spoken with a financial advisor not sure if I'm eligible for any grants. Hoping since I'm moving down early I'll be able to change my status to resident second year to get that reduced tuition lol ?

Interesting, it really depends on the year considering the 12 point difference between the year with a minimum of 80 and then 68. Maybe this year the cut off stays below 80s!

Oh I forgot that you are out of state! I’m sure that you will still qualify for grants if you haven’t received any. I guess it just depends on how much your parents make (if you provided that info). I’m an independent so I will receive more in funding. If I’m accepted into ASU for the summer I don’t believe that my financial aid will come in time so I will definitely need a private loan. If Pima does a payment program I’m sure it’ll be the same as general tuition so payments would be something like $600 then three payments of $1,800. So still too much for me because I don’t plan on working while in the program. I just wanted to let you know about Pima and their advising. Is varies by person and campus to campus. Some people know absolutely nothing and some know a lot. I’ve been given incorrect information numerous times in the 5 years I’ve gone to Pima.
