Phoenix Children's Hospital New Grad Program (GAPP) Summer 2011

Nurses New Nurse

Published

This thread is for anyone applying to the Phoenix Children's Hospital Graduate Advancement Program in Pediatrics (GAPP) which is scheduled to start in July 2011. :nurse:

Has anyone applied or heard anything yet? My application still says HR is reviewing it.

Are there any current or past GAPP graduates out there that can give some advice to us hopeful new grads?!

Good luck to all those applying to this program. The job market is harsh right now for new grads.

Specializes in school nursing; pediatrics.

Good luck you guys! Your thread caught my eye since I definitely want to go into peds. I also live in AZ and I just finished Block 3 at SCC. I already have a Bachelors and was a pediatric med asst in private practice for 2 years before starting SCC. l. As I complete my clinical rotations, I am even more convinced that peds is where I belong!

Unfortunately, the job market is so horrible right now. How far in advance of graduation did you guys start your application process with PCH?

Again, best of luck to you!

Yeah the job market is so bad right now, especially for new grads! I actually started applying for new grad positions a few months before graduation when I graduated in Dec 2010. But I am still looking for employment so I applied at PCH in April when the application was posted on the website. To my understanding most new grad positions will allow you to apply the same semester as your graduation as long as you will have your license and take your NCLEX before the start date but I do know of some new grad positions that require you to already be licensed or already have your NCLEX testing date. It will usually tell you somewhere in the job description or requirements. Hopefully by the time you graduate the job market will at least a little better.

I wish it were that easy! :o I actually applied to the new grad positions at Mercy Hospital in Bakersfield but I was rejected. I graduated from University of Arizona in December 2010. Im sure something will happen soon. I still have hope.

Wow, I had no idea the Job Search was THIS bad in Phoenix :crying2: And you're a local... which gives you an advantage. I heard the program in Bakersfield only accepted a few out of town people (I heard 2 out of 27, but that could be a rumor!). I am starting to get discouraged about the Phoenix area... I hope it picks up soon. Do you happen to know if many people from your class got jobs? Most of my class stayed local and got jobs.

I like that you still have hope! Way to be postive! Thanks!

Its too bad that a lot of hospitals like to select applicants that live in the area. I hope that the job market for new grads in Phoenix picks up also... there is so little opportunity especially for new grads. A lot of hospitals in Phoenix like to select internals as well which sucks! Did you apply to Abrazo, I believe they are still accepting applications for their New Grad Program. I think that most of my class stayed local and got jobs but I do know a few people who got jobs out of state. I feel like I am the only one of my classmates who still doesnt have a job. :crying2:

Hey guys, I applied! My status still says that "HR is reviewing my application and I am being considered, along with other applicants, for the position". What do your status' say??? And who wants to compare stats? I was able to "click" yes to all of their minimum as well as preferred qualifications so I am hoping to at least get an interview! I'll letcha know if I hear anything :-)

My status says the same. The nurse recruiter said that they will be reviewing applications in the next few weeks. So hopefully the status' will change soon.... hopefully saying something regarding having an interview or our application being forwarded to the unit/nurse manager. :)

I just got a phone call from the nurse recruiter at PCH wanting to interview me!!! :) The interview takes place this Monday. She said that there will be several interviews taking place on monday and tuesday for pediatric med/surg. For ICU and ER positions, I believe she said those interviews will take place a little later. Good Luck to everyone else who applied!
