  1. Actually, I am a Cali RN who was ready and willing to take the job that was offered to me! I was so happy and honored when they offered me the position... but I am married to an Air Force pilot who got new orders the day I interviewd and was transfered to Phoenix 2 weeks later. I was planning on staying in Cali, which is why I was interviewing there. I had no control over my husbands new orders, and yes when he got transferred I quickly turned down a job because I was not about to sign a 3 year contract away from him. Since then, everyone in my class has now landed jobs and here I am hoping and praying for anything! Despite being offered a job, I am still in the same boat you are... applying for tons of jobs every single day.
  2. I got your email but for some reason I can't respond?! Anyway, THANKS for thinking of me I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you and PCH!
  3. Do you know when each of the 3 programs start? I know they are hiring now for the one starting in June, but I just barely missed the cuttoff (I graduate in early June) for that one. I'm wondering when to expect the next program for 2011.
  4. Congrats!!! See, patience is a virtue! I know you were starting to get discouraged so this is exactly what you needed! I'm happy for you.
  5. Wow, I had no idea the job search was THIS bad in Phoenix And you're a local... which gives you an advantage. I heard the program in Bakersfield only accepted a few out of town people (I heard 2 out of 27, but that could be a rumor!). I am starting to get discouraged about the Phoenix area... I hope it picks up soon. Do you happen to know if many people from your class got jobs? Most of my class stayed local and got jobs. I like that you still have hope! Way to be postive! Thanks!
  6. Thank you! It's funny that I really want a job in Arizona and you really want a job in Cali! Tell ya what, you send all the job offers in Phoenix my way and I'll send all offers in Cali your way :) ... if only it were that easy, huh?! When did you graduate? Did you go to school in Phoenix? Good luck to you!
  7. I got offered a job in the ER at Mercy Hospital in Bakersfield for their Versant program. Turning it down was probably one of the hardest decisions I have ever had to make! But I'm not just planning a future for myself and I have to think about my husband who is in the Air Force and cannot leave Phoenix. I have faith something good will come up... otherwise I'll be kicking myself in the butt forever for turning that job down!!
  8. I haven't heard anything yet either. The application period ends the 8th so hopefully we'll hear something in the next few weeks! Have ya'll applied anywhere else? I got offered a job in Cali and I declined it because I didn't want to move away from my husband so I can't afford to be picky at this point! I will take anything! Good luck!
  9. I agree. It doesn't seem like any of the hospitals really care too much though. I mean, their so oversaturated with new grads that they are probably receiving tons of calls, emails, etc. So for them I guess the ones not chosen are not their priority. But I agree with you, that would've been the nice thing to do! Good luck to you in your search. Did you apply at the other 2 hospitals in Bakersfield?
  10. This thread is for anyone applying to the Phoenix Children's Hospital Graduate Advancement Program in Pediatrics (GAPP) which is scheduled to start in July 2011. Has anyone applied or heard anything yet? My application still says HR is reviewing it. Are there any current or past GAPP graduates out there that can give some advice to us hopeful new grads?! Good luck to all those applying to this program. The job market is harsh right now for new grads.
  11. I live in Bakersfield and most of my class got interviews and many got offers already. The last person (that I know of) to interview was last Friday and she was told that all final decisions will be made by today. They are having people come in to sign contracts today and early next week. So it looks like the hiring is over for Mercy... On the bright side, I know of at least 3 people who were offered jobs and declined them today. So hopefully that will open up a few more spots :)
  12. They asked a lot of questions about prioritizing patients. The interview was about an hour long. The managers were awesome! They were making jokes and laughing when I first went in and it really helped to lighten the mood. They told me they were there to get to know the versant candidates and not intimidate or scare them... and they did just that. It felt more like a conversation than a formal interview. After I finished the assessmend (moderator edit of name) called me back to setup the interview. If you haven't heard from him I would call him back though. I mean it can't hurt, right? Just let him know you finished and are following up with him. What areas did you apply for? I only applied to ER and ICU. Good luck to you! Maybe we'll be working together
  13. Yes, I do. I was planning on leaving but I need a job! So if I get one of the Versant programs here (with my area of preference) then I will stay... We'll see...
  14. I had my interview yesterday. Seemed like it went well. It was my very first nursing interview so my nerves were out of control as expected! They told me that they are making their final choices within 2 weeks and I will hear from them either way. So at least they won't leave us wondering! Does anyone know what the contract is about? As far as how long, penalties for breaking, etc.? I am curious because I've heard horror stories about Versant programs with outrageous 5+ year contracts. Good luck to everyone!
