Phillips Beth Israel Applicants

Published

Hi all,

I was just wondering if anyone has applied to the Phillips Beth Israel School of Nursing in NYC for the coming year? I am looking to get into their part-time evening program that would begin in Spring 2011. I'm taking the NLN this Wed and really nervous about it, really just the verbal part....

Congratulations sk57!!! :)

Does anyone know which courses you have to CLEP for? I'm looking at the paperwork they sent and it looks like you only need to CLEP for the sciences courses if they're 5+ years old or if you received a grade lower than a C in the Arts & Science courses.

Who was it that's going to take Psych online this summer? Maybe we can do it together. B. Pass-Stern said it would be a good idea to get whatever classes you can out of the way where it's less expensive.

Hey Sarah, I'm taking Developmental Psych through Herkimer CC, starting Monday. Is that the class you're taking? I'd def love to know someone in class, even if it's online! I'm also doing 3 CLEPs, ethics, and possibly Nutrition. Trying to mow down as much as possible, for both time and money's sake. I'm exhausted already.

btw, had my second interview. It was basically JM explaining the rigors of the evening courses and how I can expect to spend the next 2.5 years feeling neglected and overworked. :grn:

i tried to get some info about the admissions process for us found out there is a small committee meeting this monday, but it's mostly to catch up with those who weren't covered in the last meeting, so unless you're interview was a while ago, you'll prob be in the committee meeting after that, which is 6/14. Those of us who are evening will probably be in the later meeting anyway bcs our classes start later. so it sounds like we should all just mark our calendars for June 15 and start our good luck dances.

I have been following the Phillips Beth Israel threads for the last two years. It's fascinating to me how so many people want to get into this school. I know most nursing schools have a highly competitive application process but PBI seems to have the most passionate applicants.

Please tell me why you love this school so much. Is it because it's in the heart of Manhatten or because it's a school of faith (Jewish)? It certainly isn't cheap so it can't be for that reason.

I'm just curious.

Thanks.

Cathy

I can only speak for myself but I applied to Beth Israel because they have an awesome "hands on" program and I believe that is the best way to learn. Also the student to teacher ratio is small which is great. My mom is a graduate of St. Luke's school of nursing and she said programs like that train you to be a great nurse. She said she knew things coming out of school with her diploma that people with bsn's didn't know.

they said the book list would be going out late june/early july.

if you look thru old threads from 09/08 the books are listed, as well as the programs that we'll need for our pda's.

Well shoot. I'm feeling confident, but not so confident that I think I can sign up for a pre-req before I get final notice of admission. I wonder if all the summer online courses will already have started before June 15. Hm. Maybe I should. I think I'm going to try to clep ethics and the other psych. Maybe nutrition. I'll have to think hard this weekend about whether to sign up for that class that starts Monday.

..no, I haven't gotten the booklist yet, but the end of June/July sounds about right. You would think they wait until everybody has been accepted before sending the list --- What I was also wondering about is the physical. Has anyone gotten the email about when/where to go for the physical/vaccines yet?

i asked MG, since its not in the packet. she said that would also be sent around the same time. it needs to be done thru beth israel (thats the part in the tuition thats health related) b/c i had asked if i can go to my own physician. she said the immunizations and ppd's can be brought as proof, but the actual physcial gets done thru the hospital.

@sarah: yeah, not being accepted yet is the reason I'm holding off on my cleps, bcs other schools may accept my ancient credits. But dev. psych. is a requisite for any nursing program, so even if I don't make it in PBI, I'll need to take it for anywhere else (I just hope they accept the credits!) there's another course starting in July I think, so if you decide to wait and go for that one, let me know and I'll tell you about it and share my notes, etc.

Is anyone still waiting to be called for a first interview? I am in a bit of a dilemma. I have not heard from them yet and I really would like to take Anatomy II this summer semester. If I don't get accepted to BISN I would take it in the fall. The problem is I need to know by this Thursday, otherwise I only get half my tuition refunded from the school I signed up with to take my Anatomy. I tried getting an answer from MG and she said that they are still reviewing my file. Does anybody know if they are still looking into new interviews or am I hoping for a miracle?

NYStar - when did you apply?

I applied in January.
