Phillips Beth Israel Applicants

Published

Hi all,

I was just wondering if anyone has applied to the Phillips Beth Israel School of Nursing in NYC for the coming year? I am looking to get into their part-time evening program that would begin in Spring 2011. I'm taking the NLN this Wed and really nervous about it, really just the verbal part....

Starlette,

Congratulations! I'm so happy for you! I hope I get some news soon too. Which ethics class are you taking?

Thanks everyone! I'm taking an ethics class at my local community college in nj...I already asked MG a while ago if it would transfer. Its so much cheaper for me to take it at the community college less than $500 for the class tuition which will be reimbursed from work. Did u call today jay?

@jayzelena - when was your interview?

Congrats!!!! Can't wait to meet @ orientation.. might be diff dates though since im traditional. ( I have all my pre-req's, i just don't wanna do thurs, fri, sat, so instead i'll have mon-fri..)

me too! we probably will have same orientation since ATOP starts in the fall too...

Hi Jayzelena and Starlette (congratulations on your acceptance!), I tend to agree. It's just that It's a really intense course to cram into 1 month. However, the more I think about the more it makes sense the get it out of the way.

Vintagedoll, I emailed Stern on Friday and I have not heard from anyone as of yet. I guess we just have to play the waiting game a bit longer. Hopefully not till JULY!

For you guys that are doing online classes at HCCC I can help you, my sister is doing online classes for her ADN there.

For online classes there is no scheduled time, you just sign on throughout the day and do assignments. If you've ever used blackboard it kinda looks like that. The professor will post the requirements and syllabus for the class. Then there are learning modules where you do the work. The kind of work depends on the class but every class uses a discussion board where you comment and post things for your other classmates to discuss. Then there will be other assignments, quizzes and tests that are due throughout the time limit. Again it depends on the class but learning modules usually last 1-2 weeks so that is the amount of time you have to do the work. All professors differ so the amount of work will differ.

In my sister's English Comp class she wound up writing about 8 papers, in her intro to psych class there was an exam every week. You think of the exams and quizzes as being open book, you can use your textbook or you can do it the old fashion way and just go on what you've read. Using the textbook does not guarantee that you'll get 100% of the test because usually they entail multiple chapters and if you're trying to rush you can miss some answers. Some tests require a fill-in answer where you have to explain yourself. Some tests and quizzes are timed.

Some classes will have certain assignments due on certain days, some will have all the things for that module due on the same day. Most require attendance which is signing on at least 3 times a week or commenting and posting a certain amount of quality posts per week. For my sister's intro to psych class she had to do 20 posts within 2 weeks to get proper class participation credit and the professor graded the quality of your posts. Reading and replying to other people's posts can be simple or challenging depending on the size of the class. Some only have 25 students, some 50 and some 75.

Definetely print the syllabus out so you can have it in front of you and keep track. It can be easy to forget to assignments sometimes. My sister got a B- in one of her classes because she missed an exam because she completely forgot about it. Exams are usually only open for the day that they are due. So for example if the exam is on Jun 5th it will only be opened from about 8am-midnight. So pay close attention to your schedule.

No Starlette, I did not call today. I actually forgot. I will email her later today to ask about the committee's progress.

so the deadline is june 30th for financial aid and scholarships everyone - just to let everyone know so you dont have to worry if you are waiting until june 14th.

Thanks Starlette! Does all the financial aid stuff look complicated?

no it doesnt, just have your fafsa ready. but the scholarships require some time to fill out.

lol i dont even have it yet. i emailed MG today bc like everyone else i was worried about the june 1st deadline. iactually already filled otu my fafsa way in advanced just in case...
