Phillips Beth Israel Applicants

Published

Hi all,

I was just wondering if anyone has applied to the Phillips Beth Israel School of Nursing in NYC for the coming year? I am looking to get into their part-time evening program that would begin in Spring 2011. I'm taking the NLN this Wed and really nervous about it, really just the verbal part....

Whew! That's a relief. I called MG today and she said they would make a decision on my application on June 14th so it's still more waiting for me. :uhoh3:

Whoo!!! Go starlette!!! :yeah:

@sarah: for the online class, it's basically like guiltysins said. You have to log on and post a critical discussion question for the reading assigment and respond to other student's posts. There's this whole grading rubric based on how good your question is and how often you post. you have to reply to every single post made on your question. So far, the professor hasn't made much of an appearance. I guess I was kind of struck by how much we were expected to do on the first day of classes. I was expecting the first day to be introductory and letting everyone get used to the learning style, but we jumped right into it. Luckily there are a lot of first-timers (and a lot of nursing students! :D) on there as well!

Regarding the financial aid packet, BS told me not to worry about the deadline on the package. She said it says end of June, but they don't process any until everyone has submitted their applications for FA. So at least we don't need to pull our hair out over that one.

Good news all around. Hopefully I'll be taking a couple of online courses in July and all will be well.

Where are you guys taking online classes from? Anyone in the NYC area doing this?

I'm taking an ethics ourse online with Finger Lakes CC. There are other colleges that you could take courses with that would transfer into BI. MG has a list of them. You should call and ask her for their names and see what you could get done over the summer if that is your plan. It would lighten your work load for Fall and it would also be cheaper.

Thanks, Jay! If I am accepted, I will only have one class for the fall. Several credits transferred from undergrad, as well as courses I've taken over the past year at my local community college. I'd like to take Micro over the summer this year instead of next summer (as it is built into the traditional program). I'd take the class at a comm college in the fall if I were allowed to transfer classes from another school while attending BI, but that isn't possible, right?

once you're accepted, all classes have to be completed at pbisn.

Once Accepted or in the fall when we're enrolled in classes?

yea once enrolled in the classes, i dunno about other pre-reqs but the forms specifically say that all sciences must be taken in the school. so if you need to take anything prior to starting in the fall, make sure you do it in the summer.

Look into taking Micro at a CUNY CC if you can. I am taking micro at QCC this summer. It would definitely help you for next summer if you can get it done. And SK is right. Once you're in the program you can't take any classes anywhere else.

i've heard the micro is intense in BI, so def get it out of the way if you can, i just finished mine this spring semester, in brooklyn college, i know kcc offers it as well in the summer.

Great, thanks guys!

I'm so excited, I can hardly stand it! June 15th can't come soon enough, as far as I'm concerned. I'm really hoping that we're in since we made it to the interview portion of the admissions process. I've already started looking at apartments in the area so I don't have to commute from the upper east side (where I live now). But, I don't want to move and then not get accepted. That would be depressing. LOL.

I really want to know how many people they have to cut at this point.
